A gem

Years ago, locals wanted knocked down, thankfully they didn't succeed as it is of historical importance and well worth a visit.

To discover that the tower at this shrine was a lighthouse was not something that I was expecting. The garden is gorgeous. As is the new information centre which is so beautifully constructed of wood and glass. Absolutely loved the info centre and it's construction methods. The shrine enclosure is quiet, peaceful and serene. A stroll through the gardens will... More

Oyama Shrine is surrounded by a large strolling garden where you can easily wander for 30 minutes or so. The garden was mostly green in April but there were a few flowering trees. The pond and walkways/bridges on the water are interesting diversions. Don’t look down through the bridges and don’t wiggle as you walk across the water - the... More

Very interesting architecture for both the main prayer area and the many other smaller ones as well as sculptures, rocks with carvings, etc. The garden with it's ponds and bridges was very beautiful and gave a great sense of peace and tranquility when walking around or just sitting at the many stone benches and watching the carps in the ponds.... This shrine has a European tinge to it thanks to Portuguese influence. It's not a must see in town, not going to blow your mind, but worth wandering through if in the area.

Such a lovely little Shinto shrine in the hearty of the bustling city. The gardens on the right hand side are gorgeous with bridges and temples set amongst them. The colours in autumn were incredible. A great spot to relax for a while away from the chaos of the city streets.

Just the shinto shrine. However, I be there at this new year holiday, the shrine was full with people and fair. Many food stalls and game booths.

The Oyama Shrine gate originally guarded the entrance of Kanazawa Castle, and was later moved to Oyama Shrine. It's in the heart of the city and worth an hour of your time.

Didn't expect much, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise! Very few people, mostly locals. Quiet and a bit mysterious, and the garden was gorgeous (prettier than some paid gardens)! Very pretty autumn colours and the way the place is so quiet and not as well kept adds some mysterious feel to it. The boards/makeshift bridges look a... More

Stumbled upon this place by accident, and very glad that we did. It's beautiful and serene. It has a koi pond where you can just chill and feed the fishes.
