We went here as we were in Kanazawa and it was supposedly a must see. Wasn’t very impressed with the art, definitely saw much better installations in Naoshima and Teshima. There were a lot of digital installations, a lot of youngsters in the Museum, so maybe that’s what the kids want. I was a bit disappointed with it, but it was packed.

Interesting and large museum with much offerings of contemporary art. Staff are very helpful and the gift shop was a great place to pick up unique gifts.

Undoubtedly a beautiful building. The artworks on the first main floor were on the whole pretty ordinary. Half was closed for the installation of new works On the basement floor there were student works of design, clothes and anime which was fantastic.

Visited this museum on a Thurs morning in Nov. It was not too crowded but there were lots of visiting school students at this time.
Its Contemporary art so manage your expectations if that’s not your interest.
There is free coin operated locker. The building is very warm especially when it’s sunny. Make sure you wear layers.
You can make online reservation for the famous swimming pool but it gets full quite quickly. We arrived at 9:45AM at the museum and were able to make a same day reservation for 7PM - the last time slot.
If contemporary art is not your thing, I would recommend you drop by anyways and check out the free exhibits. You can also see the swimming pool from the ticket area. Kanazawa Castle is just across the street.

The worst experience we had at a museum - thanks to the employees of the museum.

The 'nanny' guides in the museum are in fact 'guards' for the museum pieces. They are completely focused on protecting the pieces from visitors. If you almost touch or cross one centimeter across a line, the nanny guides will verbally scold you at every moment. Thereafter, you only feel their stressed eyes following you. How in the world could we enjoy art objects like that?

The nanny guides completely ruined our mood to freely encounter modern art pieces. So sorry for the artists and architects.

The rooms where there are no guards are quite pleasant.

I noticed a request in this window asking what could be done to improve this Attraction, so I will address that first - Level the site and plant the area with grass. More attractive. More interesting. More Eco-Friendly (green). Low-maintenance and Free. Win - Win.

Series of curved sheets of coloured plastic - now there's not a World-wide shortage of coloured plastic to my knowldge. A swiming pool out in the Open Air, from which I was ushered as it began to drizzle with 5/6 drops. Thank you, Nanny.

The man in the rabbit costume, lying down absolutely stationery was enthralling & captivating at the same time, in an exceedingly dull and tedious fashion.

Now the guns welded together made for another remarkable Exhibit of nothingness.

In case you are in any doubt - I did not like it much. If you need protection aginst drops of rain and you need to use your imagination that hard - stay in bed

This wonderful building really shows what a truly talented architect can do to shape space and contain art. Memorable scene include the swimming pool illusion and the incredible full height glass around the perimeter of the museum...

We were lucky to be here on the last day it was open for the year before renovations. The exhibitions were fantastic and there was plenty of room even though there were a lot of people there. It was well worth the visit. The shop had some really great things for sale too.

Only for those really in to contemporary art and even then it is expensive to see, hard to find your way around and a bit if a warren. Some great art to be seen, but you'd expect that.

I visited this open air museum and it was close during winter month for some renovation including the famous “art swimming pool”. Just can walk outside and the inside exhibition is not opened yet. A lot of tourists come to see the “swimming pool” but it is covered for renovation. Have to re-visit in spring after they finish the renovation.
