The castle grounds are very nicely maintained and are nice to walk through. We passed through on our way to Kenroku-en and again to get back to our hotel. The castle looked very nice and although it's a modern reconstruction, was in keeping with the traditional castles we saw in Japan. We came across a wonderful cherry blossom grove by chance, one of the best we saw in our whole trip, and it wasn't crowded like so many others.

Multiple entrances to the park, but all eventually lead you to the Castle, which is now an armory. Didn't pay to go in there, just walked around outside and admired the restoration.

Nice coffee shop with lots of seating in the lobby -- with GREAT views of the castle and the place is air conditioned!! We took advantage of it on a warm summer day.

Helps to have a guide to explain the history, etc. Otherwise, read up before you come; there aren't many signs or brochures.

Gorgeous ! Loved the grounds and the recreation of the castle is beautiful inside. Not easy to find the entrance but was so happy to wander around the beautiful castle grounds

I’m sorry, but this kicks butt on the castles in Kyoto and Tokyo. The reconstruction is stunning and, unlike the gardens across the street, the walking paths are uncrowded and peaceful. Great for birders and wonderful city views. Go !

We came here in the dark as we wanted to get to Kenrokeun garden for the lighted show. But, we sort of got lost. But, the castle had its own lighted show, so we stuck around. The organizers used multi-colored lights to make the look magical.

This is one of Japan's best castles; large and grand. Well preserved and maintained, photo ops at every turn.

The park encompasses Kanazawa Castle, with a panoramic view overlooking the city. Entrance to the park is free but if you want to visit the castle premises, it would cost 300 yen, which is definitely worth checking out.

The Kanazawa Castle Park is quite big and can be accessed from several sides. We came by JR bus and entered through the main gates, opposite the Kenrokuen garden. Entry to the grounds is free, but some other areas are chargeable. When we visited in March, cherry blossoms were not in full bloom yet.

We were surprised there was no entry fee for this park area. It seems to go on forever. Lots of families enjoying the day and the scenery. Pretty cool coffee shop around the corner, too.

Worth a stroll, but we have seen more appealing gardens in other Japanese cities. The castle makes for good photos.
