This visit was not in our tour itinerary but as the coach was parked in the premise when we walked to Takayama Miyagawa morning market 朝市 I dropped by for a quick visit as I have returned earlier & waiting for the rest..
It was about 1030am on a Saturday morning with barely anyone, probably 2-3 people inside the temple even as there were quite a few tour buses parked just nearby. There are public restrooms right across from the temple as well, for the convenience of all.l
The place is at the townscape of Hida-Takayama, to distinguish it from other places named Takayama which usually refers to location in the mountainous Hida region
The Buddhist temple is actually situated at the start of the Higashiyama walking course. It is quite big with magnificent wooden gate. It is quiet and definitely well maintained for all Japanese temples. Nice surrounding architectural structures.
The temple is free to visit visitors have to take your shoes off when going into the Honden.
The highlight on the grounds is the temple’s treasure hall with more than 100 important items related to Shinran and Rennyo on display. It is also famous for its gabled wooden roof architecture, and it is said that the building materials of the hall are all from a huge cedar tree. Interesting info for us all..
Recommend to visit if you are nearby.

This temple is located right at the tour bus parking lot. We were there on Saturday afternoon and there was barely anyone. Maybe 2-3 people inside the temple although there were quite a few tour buses. The temple is quite big, nothing inside or around it is in English. There are public restrooms right across from the temple as well. The temple was free to visit (or at least I didn’t see any donation baskets). You have to take your shoes off when going there

Another well maintained and pleasant Temple. Very clean and neat, but hardly exciting.
When we visited we were the only souls there, besides bus drivers using its car park as a rare place to park.
However a nice area to stroll around the narrow streets.

Not so crowded as other places but worth visiting. Located close to the wooden houses.
The gate at the entry is really impressive

We traveled by train lines, LTD express Hide wide view, it has beautiful scenery. Snowy valley Trees were white like in the film Frozen. When traveling to a city Takayama. We found an old town full of charm. Famous Dishes Hida beef is mixed with Miso grilled on magnolia leaf. So yummy.

The temple itself is fairly typical, but worth a visit--and it's on your way to many delightful places in Takayama--you know, like the wonderful bridges, each of a different color. The ginko in the courtyard is twelve feet in diameter and has accumulated a personality all its own.

This was one of the emptiest places I visited in Takayama and very nice for it as well. There's a large gatehouse with a guard who smiles when you come through, two well laid out gardens and the main hall. It's much the same as all the other temples in town but I liked the vending machine for Buddhist tracts.
