We came across this little theatre by accident but we’re so glad we went into the show. The performers are very talented and committed, and put on a show with dance, music and acting that recounted a folk tale. The performers also explained some traditional culture and let us try the drums after the show. The introduction and explanation given by the performers is in Japanese and English.
They appreciate a good enthusiastic response from the audience.
The show was an hour long and went by very quickly

Exceptional performance of traditional culture by a group of young and talented artists. Takayama certainly is worth visiting but an evening should be spent in this theater .
An energetic and harmonious drummers show accompanied by flutes and the shamisen is the base of the Ryoumen Sukuna hero legend.
Fantastic experience!

We had a fantastic time at Dekonaru-Za. We went on a weeknight, so it was less busy but we felt like we were in a room full of people as the performers were so energetic and engaging. We loved the story line, the dancing, the folding fan lesson and the drums! Absolutely not to be missed in Takayama. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

This was a very well done theater experience. The cast was excellent. They explained the story in Japanese and English. Included was folding fan instruction, trying the Japanese drum and singing folk songs. It was very interactive, as the cast came into the audience to demonstrate techniques. The quality of the music and drumming was outstanding. The costumes were wonderful. Due to corona virus, tourism is way down for this town. We were the only 2 people to attend the show. Amazing that they did not cancel with this low turnout, but instead they put on the show with enthusiasm. Each of the cast members made special effort to look straight at us during their performance. We basically had a wonderful private show. When the show ended, the entire cast came off the stage to greet us and thank us for our attendance. They brought us onto the stage and we all posed for pictures together. We left feeling like we had received something special and we will not forget this very wonderful experience. Highly recommend!

Takayama is a beautiful town but we realized soon when it is getting close to 8 pm the options for night experiences get limited. Luckily we stumbled in the streets at night time on this wonderful little theater in the heart of Takayama. We heard about this before but were unsuccessful in buying tickets online but when we walked in we were welcomed with open arms. We felt like VIPs. The staff made sure that we were looked after before the start of the show. Some great memories were made in traditional Japanese clothing and I even was allowed to try myself on the drums. It was beautiful. The evening was incredible. The passion and discipline of the artists on stage was so inviting. There was even some scenes where me and my husband were able to be included into the night festivities. I would recommend this to anyone trying to find a great change of scenery when visiting Takayama. Please feel free to walk in and purchase the tickets. It’s a night to remember.

It was a great experience! I went with my 2 colleagues. They also had a good time! At first we’re not quite sure what this show is about, but the staff explained it to us throughout the show both in Japanese and English. They also taught us how to use sensu (Japanese folding fan). I heard that they give different lessons for each schedule. After that they showed us some dance and finished it with the drum show (I believe it’s called Taiko in Japanese). Lucky us, we’re the only guest of that time so we can seat in the front row and interact with the staff as much as we want. Ah ya, they also let you take picture and video! However, it’s not allowed to take picture/videos with flash. After show, I just realized that they also provide Kimono for guest to try. If you come here 30 minutes before the scheduled show, you can try kimono and take picture with it. Unfortunately we’re came 5 minutes before the show started so there’s no time for that.

This was an exciting and authentic experience, definitely one of the best ones we had in Japan. A beautiful display of ancient Japanese art and culture performed masterfully by the troupe. All the people involved were amiable and welcoming, besides talented and genuinely engaged with their craft. The quality of the theatre and the facilities was very high. I totally recommended it!

My boyfriend and I were visiting Takayama and decided to go to the show as we hadn’t seen the Japanese drums before. The performance was amazing, so well practiced and a good mix of different Japanese arts including swords, dance and drums. The show was very interactive with the audience and parts of the performance was narrated in both English and Japanese which was great as our Japanese is very basic. I would highly recommend to all!

We found by chance the advertisment of this show, and we are so happy we went for it! The show is vibrant, trasmits energy and shows traditional japanese instruments and music! Great for travellers who want to get the taste of traditional Japan. The audience is also very much involved, leaving a nice memory in the visitors. It lasts about a hour, we warmly reccomend it :)
