We visited late. It is a relatively small place with a great sense of history. Definitely worth a visit and of course for those who like the history around TE Lawrence - it’s a must

On our taxi tour of Aqaba one of the good stops was the Aqaba Castle. A building which dates back to 1510AD and has seen a lot of action over the years! The locals are slowly restoring the area to it's previous glory and are doing a good job. The old Fort/Castle has had a varied life mixed between renos and major destruction and is now firmly on the reno track! Pilgrims used to use the fort as a caravanserai on the way to Mecca, Good to see it re-born.

We were exploring the city of Aqaba and saw the door to the fort was open (but the museum next door was closed for repairs) so we wandered in and were given a free guided tour of the fort which was very interesting. They are currently landscaping the area around the castle so that the landscaping style links in with the architectural style of the area around the giant flag pole. It will be very nice once they have planted up the garden areas.

it looks like an abandoned fort, the same situation applies to all of Jordan, since they don't have information boards with the description of the place, its history and other information, there is no option to have a guide or audio guide. More impressive is the huge flag in the square near the castle.

I gave it 5 as rate because when I entered there I didn't pay anything. The fort itself is not very interesting but from few touristy places that the city has to offer it is worth visiting. As I mentioned - 5 was because I didn't pay if for any reason there would be someone charging entry fees it is not worth seeing.

Free entry. Very clean and tidy
16th century ,held by Ottomans until July 1917 ,when Lawrence of Arabia ,with the local tribesmen and some regular troops of Prince Faisal, crossed the Nefud desert and captured the fort from landward side and ended the occupation of the Ottomans.
Really interesting small Fort that has been carefully reconstructed over many years and still ongoing.
One needs a torch for the little tunnels and stairs to get up to the battlements..
Excellant view down across the sea and Arab revolt plaza.
Reasonable signage.

Very interesting site, with free access. You can visit all the rooms. A guide at the entrance shows the castle.

Lovely castle that requires about twenty minutes of time to see, explore and read. Not sure why the reviews hover around 'average' for the majority as it is indeed a nice castle to see. Entry is free and it is located by the main museum and the Arab Revolt flagpole (flag raised late morning - quite the site as well from the castle!).

Quite small and reconstructed castle. Not worth the detour, but if you are near the area, come to have a look
