About
Discover the tunnels and grottoes within Thuy Son, the only one of the five Marble Mountains that’s open to travelers. Marvel at the Buddhist temples carved into the rock, then head to the hilltop overlook for awe-inspiring views of the city. Join a guided tour to learn more about the history of the mountains. To reach the summit, take the elevator or climb the stairs; if you choose to do the latter, be very careful as the marble steps tend to be slippery. Visit early in the morning or later in the day to escape the midday heat and beat the crowds. – Tripadvisor

- MarieBaltimore, Maryland33 contributionsGo To This Place!Marble mountains or “The Five Element Mountains” have more temples and caves than expected. They are each unique and very interesting to visit. The people around it are also very friendly. There is a lot to learn from this area so I strongly recommend people visit this place if you want to learn more about Vietnamese culture and history.Visited August 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 September 2023
- RaymondaleKuala Lumpur, Malaysia1,116 contributionsmountains of five elementsvisited here again on 7 September, that time i had a one day trip, from Hue to Hoi An,the last stop was marble mountains. actually i been here before,in 2019, that time i went alone, and i took grab to marble mountains, that time,i had more time to explore, but this time,i joined a mini tour,so the time is limited, around one hour, a bit rush if compared to the first time. Marble Mountains is a group of five limestone peaks.they are named after the five elements. travellers mostly visit the water mountain,it is the biggest one. that time, i also visited water mountain, after buying ticket,i saw some statues and temples, visited linh ung pagoda also some caves, like Tang Chon cave ,Van thong cave and Huyen Khong cave, the latter is one of the most magnificent and largest caves in Marble Mountains. Due to its open and unique structure, the sunlight shines from the top of the cave on the Buddha statue, the scene is spectacular. Van thong cave is not big, but you can go through the small crevices of the cave to reach the top of Thuy Son mountain.you can admire part of Da Nang city here, nice view. i will come again next time, but wont joint a tour, need more time to explore this mountain.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 7 October 2023
- André KHefei, China279 contributionsHidden temple in a caveThis was a really nice place to visit. We did not know what to expect but was very surprised with the temple in the cave . It was like a scene from a movie. The view of Da Nang from the top of the mountain is also an added bonus. The elevator is the best option to reach the top.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 October 2023
- Abhi Manjunath5 contributionsVery informative trip to Marble mountainsWe had visited the Marble mountain and the Monkey mountain on peak time during November. Our guide Luan (Lung) was extremely knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. We were able to learn so much about history of Vietnam and the beliefs of Vietnamese people. Importance of each and every monument and place was explained in detail to us. Thank you for a well organized and informative trip.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 November 2023
- Miroslava T14 contributionsMarble mountainsAmazing views, we did not have a tour guide, but it was still great. The pagodas are not well maintained, which is sad. Go earlier in the morning, as there are big tourist groups after that. There are lots of stairs to climb even if you take the elevator, so it is good if you are in good health. Bring water, sun protection and hiking shoes or at least comfortable sneakers.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 November 2023
- WikumjBromley, United Kingdom395 contributionsBest day trip activity from Hoi AnSurprised this isn't higher rated on here, we thought it was one of the best things we did during our visit to Hoi An. Only 30 minutes drive away, this mountain complex houses some fantastic caves and shrines and beautiful gardens and walkways. Recommend taking the lift up to the top as there is plenty more walking and climbing to do when you get to the top. Aim to spend around 2 hours to see everything. So picturesque, we took plenty of photos, including great views from the top of the mountain.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 December 2023

Nice to walk in, have a quick look but nothing more than that. We have 2 kids in the age of 2 and 4. We took the elevator to go up and went with the stairs down.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 December 2023
- Briony k8 contributionsDon’t have to be fit to enjoy ☺️Well worth a trip if in the area. Yes, there are lots of steps, it is a mountain after all, but don’t let this put you off! I’m not fit and completed all the sections. Trainers advisable! The views are fantastic and the caves and pagodas, with all their marble statues, both fascinating and interesting. Came on a moped and the shop keepers want you to park there, they will chase you down the road, but this is normal for them! Pick one and park up, the fee is a drink after visiting, cost 60,000 (£1.95…not exactly horrific!), it’s how they earn money.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 December 2023

Went there with my family to enjoy the hill and you are immediately grabbed by people selling crafts. There is a charge to use the elevator both up and a separate charge to use it to come down. There is also an entrance charge and they won’t even allow you to take a photo unless you have paid for it all. Once you are up the mountain (about 5 stories) you are once again accosted by guides forcing themselves on you and then demanding money. I’d take a hard pass on this one.

We were on a group tour of about 18 people. This was one of our stops when we were heading from Hoi An to Hue (all in the same day). I am very glad we got here early how it was just starting to get really warm. Its a long way up and some of the stairs are very tall. We all split up and went our own way to see what was most important to us. There is so much to see here. Marble mountain consists of five marble & limestone hill and are named after the 5 elements. There are amazing statues, caves, temples and carving in the mountain. The view are also incredible.
It cost around 40,000VND ($2.35CAD) to enter Mount water. It also cost the same to enter Hell Cave. There is also an optional Elevator Fee of 15,000VND ($0.90CAD) per person/per ride. We didn’t take the Elevator Option. I do wish that we had taken the guide so we didn’t get lost in the short amount of time we were there for. The guide was 50,000VND ($3CAD). We only had an hour and a half at the marble mountains which was not even close to enough time. I would say you need a minimum of 3 hours to be able to take your time and really enjoy yourself. But the time we were leaving it was starting to get busy. Glad we got there when we did. I believe it was around 9am.
There are lots of shops around the bottom of the mountain selling carvings out of the stone from the mountains. There is also a few restaurants and corner stores to get something quick to eat before heading to your next location. The locals were all very friendly as you passed by.
I can not wait to go back and see all of this fantastic location.

This must be the far away No. 1 attraction for tourists visiting Danang. You must not miss it. The mountain is not high so taking the steps will be the wise choice even lift is available for a fee. Compared to other attraction entry fee in this city, climbing Marble Mountains has the best value. Stairs may be uneven but it's manageable if you climb up slowly. The caves were popular as they were the rare excitement at this peaceful attraction. One or two caves require very strong legs to climb up though so be aware (no worry by the younger ones) before entering the one way path as the path is narrow and steep so it's hard to withdraw and return. Allowing 2 hours here should be quite adequate.

Marble mountain is mid way between Danang & Hoi An. So we booked a cab from our hotel in Hoi An to Danang city with a stop over at the Marble Mountains.
You can opt to walk up the steps which can be really tiring or pay 15k VND & take the elevator (one way).
The moment you get off the elevator, you are welcomed by an awesome view with the beach on one side & the city view on the other with mountains.
There are beautiful caves with statues in stone as well as marble. You can also buy statues & other souvenirs made from marble from the shops below in the area (although our driver had told us not to buy from the shops around as the marble quality wasn't that good).
A bit of advise: Please wear good sturdy shoes if you want to climb up into the steep caves.

This is a great place with a climb that may be hard for people with mobility issues. There are caves and religious statues that are worth seeing but beware of the merchants and their wares. The prices are exorbitant and there is a person who will track you in the main store until you leave, probably to assist but is there to sell.

We hired a grab and taxi to take us all over here he area for two days.
You have to pay to enter the mountain to explore the caves. There is an option to pay to ride a lift to the top. I am recommend that you buy the lift ticket as the stairs in the cave are doable, yet slippery and exhausting.

Our morning tour with our guide Mr Ken (Tommy Dao Tours - HoiAn) began at 8am. Stopped of at a marble workshop/showroom then headed to Marble Mountain. Get there early to avoid the crowds. The caves were amazing and quite easy to access so long as you can do stairs. The glass lift up the mountain is great, it’s all leg work after that, including the descent to ground level. Having a knowledgeable guide is a must. We were able to learn about all the statues, caves, temples and many other details that are not well sign posted for tourists wandering the cave areas without guides. Having a private tour guide like Mr Ken made our visit much more informative and gave us a great understanding about the history of the mountains. We then headed to the Dragon Bridge in Danang for a few photos and then The Lady Buddha site for another well informed tour which includes a few chance meeting with some monkeys! Well worth a visit if you are around Danang and/or HoiAn. Our tour was a 1/2 day that was completed with a beautiful Vietnamese lunch in HoiAn. Thank you Tommy Dao Tours & Mr Ken.

The 5 craggy tops are a major tourist attraction and therefore very busy, even though we visited late in the day. That said we really enjoyed the visit. There is an elevator to take you part way up the crag or a couple of paths. Inside the mountain are a series of natural caves containing Hindu and Buddist shrines. The largest with a large Buddha statue was a Viet Cong hospital in the American War. There are also great views from the highest point on Thuy Son, which we had to ourselves. Around the mountains are the usual stalls selling tourist stuff and lots of statues with most of the stone imported from China.

My wife and I booked a private tour of Marble Mountain through our hotel, the La Siesta, in Hoi An.
Our guide, pronounced Home, was excellent.
Our tour started with a brief stop at one of the family marble carvers. They had an amazing collection of statues and other art delicately and lovely card from different types of marble. I wish we had room to have one of these in our yard because they were really some of the most beautiful statues I’ve ever seen.
But the real value of this tour started once we taking the elevator to the top of the mountain. After that followed one amazing setting after another. From pagoda to cave to Budda and temple then again and again it seems like we couldn’t get any more amazed until we were.
It’s one of those places were pictures no matter how good simply do not do it justice.
We highly, highly recommend the store to anybody who is in the area.

This is a popular site with lots of visitors, but it is worth the time to experience the wonders of this area. I was impressed by the temples, pagodas, statues, ponds, caves and beautiful views. Take the elevator to the top.

Is it necessary to book a tour at The Marble Mountains or you just get a ticket and wander around on your own? In the latter case will 2-3 hours suffice?
Written 7 January 2023
No tour required . There’s a good map and I just walked in and bought a ticket. Spent about 2 hours there and lots of little tracks to explore if you’re fit ( some very steep)

Is one hour long enough to have a good visit to the Marble Mountains?
Written 14 November 2022
I don't think so. You wouldn't get the full experience and there's a lot to see and take in. I'd recommend at least a couple of hours.

My wife and I are planning a trip to Vietnam next year (Mar 2023) and one of the excursions included is a climb of Marble Mountain from Da Nang. However, my wife had polio as a child and has a walking difficulty so we are concerned about whether she would cope with this or not? She manages to get around fine on her own and up and down stairs and hills okay with an arm to hold on to. We have travelled a lot over the years and she managed India and associated site seeing perfectly okay.
Any pointers would be gratefully received!

You can take the elevator up. But there are lots of steps to get into and out of the caves and they can be steep with no handrails. There are also steps from section to section outdoors. Again, they can be steep but there aren't steps - maybe 6 max. at one section.
If it's wet, I wouldn't recommend as it would be slippery. But if she has an arm to hold, she may be ok. And if you're both ok with it, she can wait for you outside some of the caves while you go in.
My main concern would be other people - I would imagine that when busy, there will be many others there and as we all know, people can be pushy, self absorbed and so attached to their phones and selfies that they pose a risk to the safety of others.

Is the cave entrance included in marble mountain entrance fee without doing a tour?

Hi
All you pay for is to use the lift. There are stairs which I used so no cost.
Enjoy

I first visited Marble Mountain about 9 years ago. Might visit again as I recall in the shop at the base they sold very nice large coloured stones that would make a good cocktail ring when mounted. I bought one and had made into a ring. Does the shop still sell them, I think they were only about £5 each....?
