About
The eight Cham Islands off the Hoi An coastline are perfect for idyllic beach relaxation and exciting water activities. You can also explore the traditional fishing village and the Marine Protected Area. Snorkeling tours are a great choice if you want to appreciate the island’s varied marine life, which includes colorful corals, crustaceans, and endangered fish. With boats leaving multiple times a day from Cua Dai in Hoi An, the islands make for a great day trip. Or, you can stay the night if you want to catch the marvelous sunset over the horizon of the ocean. – Tripadvisor

    Cham Island Tour
Did a tour of Cham Island. Van picked me up from my accommodations at Bel Marina @ 8AM. Dropped us off at the Cau Dai pier for a ride in a speed boat. Toured around a few places on land. Then another boat took us out for swimming + snorkeling. The coral was beautiful. Afterwards a beach front lunch. The lunch was huge + delicious! Spent some time @ the beach with lounge chairs + umbrellas.

    Nice little island
We were there and stayed overnight on the Island and we did a good choice as most of the day trip from Hoi An are time limited. Cham island is such a pearl if you have time to enjoy it. 5 gorgeous white sand beaches, water is supper clean with no plastic pollution as not allowed by law. We rent a scooter and discover every bit of this Island. At night you can also experience local music performanced by locals.

Cham Island as of January 22, 2024
Cham Island is a sleepy fishing village during low season with not much tourists. The closest beach from the bay is a gem, the northern one a bit more tricky for solo traveler women, don't expect to be alone. "News" bulletin goes off at five in the morning for all to wake up to in the biggest village so if you're looking for quiet mornings, it's better to choose the other village. This is further from a beach however. The seafood is delicious and most homestay owners run decent restaurants.

Beautiful island. Good luck with getting there.
Beautiful island. The views are great. We were told to go to a particular beach (Xep Beach) for snorkeling, but did not see any fish there. Getting there was frustrating. It seems like the public ferry goes there and back only one time a day. However there seemed to be many boats that were going once we got to the dock. The tour companies seem to have the market cornered for transportation there. They also offer to take you snorkeling to a different area. Don't know if those folks saw any fish.

Visit Cham Island, at least 1 night!
So many mixed reviews for Cham Island, but we are so glad we went there! I would say don't do a day trip from Hoi An. There is not enough time to see & enjoy the Island. We watched the boats speeding in & out all day & were so glad we didn't go for that option. Cham Island is a beautiful, relaxed fishing & seaside town. I think it is meant to be enjoyed slowly... think island time! We only stayed 1 night, wish we did at least 2 nights. Stayed at Tuan Than Homestay & they were really great. Rented us a motorbike & provided free snorkelling gear. Dan Tri restaurant serving up the best seafood we had in Vietnam! So fresh & friendly service. There are at least 2 stunning beaches to relax & swim at. Unfortunately the snorkelking was not great, mostly bleached coral. So we wouldn'trecommend if you are only interested in snorkelling. But there is not a lot of rubbish in the water, compared to mainland. The locals really take care of their island & it was so awesome to soak up the peaceful, chilled local atmosphere & time at the beach. The town was awesome, seeing locals drying fish & squid. All riding scooters & going about their days & singing karaoke at night.

A pleasant and relaxing trip to Cham Island
We went on a trip to Cham Island with Hoi An Green Travel. In the morning, we were picked up by a van from the hotel in Cua Dai, a short transfer to the port and a 30-minute boat ride to the island. We had a tour of the island, then snorkelling is normally planned, but due to a sudden storm we had to stay on the island. The guide reversed the program and we went to a beautiful beach where we had time to relax and have a great lunch. When the weather improved, we went snorkelling. The corals are not very colourful, but they are huge and beautiful. Overall it was a very enjoyable, well organized and relaxing trip. The island is beautiful and very peaceful. I would like to thank the fishermen who rescued our son and others who were diving and snorkelling on another boat when the storm began. They couldn't be pulled out of the water onto a large boat. After an alarm in the port, fishermen rushed to help and rescued them. We did not have the opportunity to thank them in person, so we would like to express our gratitude in this way.

It all started and ended with the speedboat. The South China Sea has her own sense of adventure. We loved the island and it's people once we got the there. Stayed at Monkey Homestay a rustic and friendly place. If u are an adventure seeking nature loving person who lives to ride the seas, then go for it. Make sure u sit at the back of the speedboat and the jacket fits. Have fun.

Basically when you come on island, you will be arriving like a city pier. if you go there by 11 o’clock they will tell you to walk 30 minutes to the beach there. They will grab you after to go to the beach 30 minute walk they would give you lunch and when they give you lunch they will tell you you need to go one hour early because of bad weather when it was sunny and all windy up, all the movie time was giving clear weather this is truly tipping for tourism. This is not real tourism. We pay around 2 million dong for this old trip which is not a lot in euro or dollar but for Vietnam it’s a hell of money.

As we say in french, this us a 'tourist trap'. We bought a snorkeling trip to cham highland. They advertised two hours of snorkeling at 2 spots with different kinds of corals with bbq at the beach before coming back...
Reality was different... at 10am 20mn in speedboat to reach cham main island ( laio cu?) Then 1 hour of waiting there ( of course nothing to do except drinking at the café...) then 2min of boat to reach the snorkeling spot. Not much to see as the corals are sparse and very damaged ( people stand on them ) correct mask and tuba, no finns....If you are patient you might see some parror or angel fish...
After 30min you are called back to the boat and brought to the beach restaurant. Below average vietnamese food ( do you like chopped chicken with bones inside and fish head in soup?). Drinks were supposed to be included but...no. staff really unpleasant. Then 1.5 hour to spend on the beach with'free' long chairs.. just people keep asking you to pay for them or to move further..or even forbid you to use them after bathing....
No second snorkeling spot.

Never again

We booked Hoàng Linh tourism agency around 11:30 am to take us to Cu Lao Chàm. Our tour guide was Loc Thi Tran. We paid 50% of the total cost (about 3 millions plus VNĐ) upfront. We said we would pay the remaining 50% when we finished the Cu Lao Cham trip.

We got on a speed boat to go to a scuba diving site. We paid a separate fee for scuba diving. We happily spent an hour scuba diving there. Then we went back to the boat. The boat dropped us off at one of the Cu Lao Cham islands for a quick shower and lunch. When we just barely finished our lunch, she rushed us to go back to the main land because the storm was coming. We didn’t get a chance to look around the island. Our trip was cut super short because of strong wind and heavy rain. While the boat was speeding during the turbulent stormy weather, we asked our tour guide for a discount. She refused & demanded us to pay 100% of the total cost. We spent a lot of time & energy to negotiate with her for the discount. She reduced $300,000 VND, about 3.9%. We disagreed, we asked for more reduction because we didn’t get a chance to enjoy Cu Lao Cham island at all. She could have told us from the beginning that the storm would be coming around 2:00 pm. She refused our request of more discount, commanded the boat driver to stop the boat, & demanded to collect our money or else she wouldn’t let us go back to the main land. The boat engine was being turned off, and it was rocking very hard during the storm. A kid in our group cried very loud, out of fear. He threw up badly. His parents were trying hard to comfort him. This tour guide & the boat driver were unmoved & commanded us to pay in full. We were very frightened for our lives, we had no choice but to agree to pay whatever the tour guided requested. We said we would give her the money when we safely docked the boat.

When we got back to the dock, we steered back to the same topic. We told her that we didn’t want to pay the remaining 50% of the cost, because we had never gotten a chance to explore the island. We told her that she should tell us about the bad weather upfront. She never did. We didn’t want to pay 97%-100% for something we never got to enjoy. We got into a long quarrel. The local people surrounded us and took her side. They belittled us. They said they were not responsible for the weather and that we should pay in full regardless. They threatened to barricade & smash our van. I instructed my relatives to use their smartphones to record everyone and the whole incident. Fearlessly, I demanded to see the tour guide’s ID and talk to her supervisor. I explained to her supervisor about the situation and why we didn’t want to pay the remaining 50%. Her supervisor agreed with us and let us go. Her supervisor talked directly to her about that. However, this tour guide adamantly refused to listen to her supervisor and still demanded us pay the remaining 50%. I threatened to call the police coming over to write a report. I challenged her to call the cop on me. I told her that I would happy to see her in court. I told her that my relatives were videotaping everything, and would expose this tourist trap on all social media channels. She stepped back a bit. We quickly took that chance to get inside our van & sped off. The tour guide didn’t give up. She called & texted to my relatives’ phone numbers to harass them. Of course, we blocked her. That was our traumatic experience with this Cu Lao Cham tour guide. Other tourism agencies would refuse to take their customers out to any islands when they knew the storm would be coming. They would refund us the money without their customers asking for it. So stay away from the local people at Cu Lao Cham & this tour guide Loc Tran. They’re ruthless people!
