This charming church on the square is steeped in history. It is the Basilica dedicated to the Holy Sacrament. The parish dates back to the 1600s but the church was destroyed various times . The present church dates back to 1810 . Lots of statues...More

Dating from the 17th century in Portuguese style this is Uruguay's oldest church. Whitewashed and plain, but very attractive in its simplicity.

This is a lovely well kept 17th century church. Some nice religious displays inside the church. Well worth a visit.

As with most places in Colonia, it's a very pretty church and even more peaceful than the streets! The sun was pretty much at its hottest so was a respite from the heat and a lovely place to just sit and contemplate

This would have been better if it included a guided tour. There was some old art on the walls, some of it from the 1700s, and perhaps 1600s. The alter was beautiful.

The church seems to go by a number of different names, but it sits in the heart of the old town and is definitely a highlight to visit. It seems to be open all day and into the evening, which is useful. Both the exterior...More

The photo that I have included in this review has turned my life around. Never would I have thought that a small town like Colonia would lead me back to the Good Lord and His Mercy. I have been #blessed by this site.
