You'll find the lighthouse in the middle of walking around the old-town. It has some ruins around it which you can't really tell what they are unless you read about them. But it's all part of this historic town which is easy to walk and enjoyable. It's easily worth checking out as part of the walk.

Its worth the climb up 110 steps for an unforgettable view of Colonia. My partner almost skipped the chance to do this, but glad he did it after all.

For a mere $20 (Uruguay) you can go up the historic lighthouse and see the view... it's nice! It's also very small, so if you're 1) afraid of heights 2) dont like getting very close to people on the way up and down the stairs, then you should probably give it a miss!

Narrow to get up, but cheap admission and great views from all the way at the top (be sure not to only stop at the 1st level). Great for sunset views!

Built in the "vestiges" of the former convent. An ugly white column... Apparently worth climbing for the view but I was so horrified by the fact that they had built this ugly thing in the middle of the convent remains that I did not go near it ...

When visiting this maghical old town be sure to climb to the top level of the Colonia Lighthouse. Great 360degree views are your reward for climbing the very narrow stairway.

What can you say about a light house? Tall, narrow, good view of the area, nice bit of vertigo if your that way inclined and then back down again. I would say worth the little money for the photos.

On a very grey day, we went upstairs (I think there were 80-90 of them) and were thrilled at the view we got from the river and the town, so imagine it must be stunning on a clear day! Unfortunately, it was thoroughly windy, so was able to stay up there for a little while only!

What can you say about a lighthouse? Except that, upon entering, you will feel like a little kid, you'll have a great workout climbing to the top, and you will have wonderful panoramic views. This one even let's you go into where the big lightbulb is! At $1 or less to enter? How do you pass that up? This, in... More

200 pesos for admittance. 112 steps and 6 rungs to the top. WATCH YOUR HEAD near the top and to go outside on either level. It's a tight squeeze on the stairs if you have oncoming traffic. Great view of the city, ocean and ferry terminal.
