Beautiful exhibition which we visited during the calligraphy biennale (which also meant free entrance!). Beautiful art, unfortunately absolutely no explanations, and this is a shame as there are various styles exhibited.

The museum was showcasing an exhibition of calligraphy from around the Islamic world at the time of our visit. Three additional exhibition halls were utilized to display this illustration of how calligraphy is art suitable for framing and display on the wall. There were a few examples of calligraphy in sculptural format that were unique and striking. The actual museum... More

Today we visited the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum and Calligraphy Workshop next door. What a beautiful exhibit! The museum consists of about four or five large rooms with 10-20 pieces in each room. You are free to wander the collection at your own pace. People who understand the scripts will obviously want longer, but each work is a masterpiece. All of... More

This museum is part of the heritage village complex, but worth a separate review, and if time is short do not be tempted to leave it out of your visit. We were lucky to visit during the exhibition of entries from the 2016 Calligraphy Biennial and were astounded at the quality and quantity of works from traditional calligraphy to very... More

The history of UAE is quite small and there are not so many museums, so after traveling in some other cities, I was happy to find out that Sharjah is full of museums. The whole area, the heart of Sharjah, is worth to visit. There are many small museums (school, heritage + Fort), where are possible to visit at the... More

This is a great little museum tucked away in a little spot that is not easy to find. Get to the Heritage House first, though, and you'll easily find your way here since it's about a minute-long walk away. The entrance you're looking for along one side of the courtyard. (See my pictures with this review.) The entry fee is... More

I don't know of too many museums devoted entirely to calligraphy (none, in fact), so when I heard about this one, it shot to the top of my list of things to do. In all honesty, its small, difficult to find, and if you're not into Arabic calligraphy will probably rate a 15-30 minute walk through. I spent a couple... More

A calligraphy is so important in Islam (they don't do pictures/icons) this museum is truly amazing, seeing how only word can be used in both a dramatic and artistic way

Set in one of the most beautifully restored villas in the Heritage area, this is a fascinating gallery. Arabic calligraphy is an art in itself and this exhibition is a superb example of its different styles.
