This site really is well worth a visit. Whilst it is quite spread out, you can drive right to the main entrance (if it is the entrance - bit hard to tell!). This brings you straight into a well preserved stadium. From here, walk up the mountain. You will come to the Agora, which has recently revealed some water courses,... More

This serves to confirm the earlier positive reviews of the archeological site of Kibyra. The site is few kms from the modern town of Gölhisar and is situated on a mountain slope overlooking the plain, which in ancient times was a huge lake. The site is about 3 times bigger than that of Ephesus, and it is therefore tough to... More

Thw work with the new building and the parking area next to it was ongoing when we revisited the place. The... More

Kibyra is an ancient site in Gölhisar, Burdur where some gladiator tombs - probably belonging to a gladiator cementary- have been found. These stands on both sides of the monumental street, in the east/north-west direction, leading to the stadion. The tombs have been decorated with gladiator friezes on the sides that formed a probable facade towards the street. In 2002,... More

We have been intrigued by the new road signs,on the Antalya to Fethiye road, for this ancient site. On the spur of the moment we decided to have a look. The most scenic route from Fethiye is through Üzümlü and on to Gölhısar. You can get there, from the well signposted, off the Antalya road. It did feel the journey... More
