The drive down to this is outstanding. However do not use the cafe/restaurant. Total rip off. There are no menu's so beware. Only had 6 cokes and it cost £18. When we asked for the price list, he said the prices were in his head!!!!
Do not go in!!!! Beware

We chartered a boat and sailed from Marmaris to Kekova over 2 weeks, we ate all along the coast at many restaurants, pulling into Gemiler Adasi is a magical spot, the view is stunning and well worth the trip.
Please, Please, Please be aware of the restaurant on the beach (right side when facing it, with Fethyie over the hill).
Night started all peachy until we were handed a bill that have us incredible BILL SHOCK, in short it's a con, they're all nice, local family then they sting you with a huge bill which is cash only. We felt unbelievably threatened at the end and can't tell enough friends who charter in Turkey to avoid this restaurant.

Please avoid the cafe on the right hand side at beach level, it displays no prices and they rip you off terribly. They have no shame and will demand payment and verbally abuse you if you complain.

We have sailed in turkey for a few years from Bodrum to Fethiye and loved it. This year we had our holiday ruined in the area of Gremiler Bay and cold water bay by a man called Ahmed. Ahmed is a man in a motor boat selling ice creams and helping you tie your lines to the rocks, his boat is Elfi 3. My husband got on well with him, he gave massages as well as selling ice cream so my husband suggested I have one, many of them do. He also has villas which he rents out and he introduced us to his family too, stupidly we trusted him. When he returned us to our yacht after a night out and my husband had had quite a lot to drink, Ahmed decided to use that to his advantage by making a very strong pass at me, I won't go into details but it was quite obvious he wanted sex. He soon scarpered after I managed to get to my husband in the bath room but the whole experience was very scary I dread to think what would have happened if I had not got away from him. The locals were very helpful and understanding and we cannot believe we got ourselves into that position. We were on holiday enjoying ourselves and it all went dreadfully wrong. Turkey is amazing and we would go back again but this is just a warning to beware , people are not always what they seem. Fortunately most are and as I say the locals were great but beware of this man.

I hope that I am writing my review in the correct place as I am going to talk about "St Nicholas island" which was one of the stop-off places we enjoyed visiting on an organised boat trip during our week in Olu Deniz...
Stepping off the boat and treading the rocky paths amongst the ruins where St Nicholas is rumoured to have lived.. there are the remains of four old churches if you can manage to brave the elements and complete the climb, the views at the very top are stunning (so my boyfriend says - I gave up at the second church, left him to it and went back to the beach to wait by the boat, but I took some lovely photos as far as I got!)
You will need suitable footwear, not flimsy sandals or flip-flops (so trainers or aqua shoes will be ideal) and do watch your step because you wouldn't want to twist an ankle... apply high factor sun lotion, wear a hat and take a bottle of water and your camera.
There are signs asking people not to go among the ruins but stick to the path - mainly because of all the stones it could be dangerous, but also to preserve the site.. That said, I carefully followed my boyfriend a tiny little bit into the ruins of the second church to look for a photo opportunity and we were disgusted to see a soiled nappy left behind by a previous visitor. Honestly.... Good thing no bad language is allowed on TripAdvisor, (and although I know it is unlikely that the culprit is going to read this review, I have to vent somewhere...) if people are bringing infants to places of outstanding natural beauty and/or protected sites of historical importance, for goodness sake we do not care that babies will fill their nappy at inconvenient times.. your family's filthy waste is your problem to dispose of appropriately. Thankfully that was the only bad thing we saw - not one other piece of stray litter. Rant over.
The boat trip we took lasted the whole day and took in several other stunning and unspoiled beaches, all with beautiful crystal clear water to take a cooling dip or try a bit of snorkelling. The beach itself beneath the ruins was a pretty little cove and if you don't fancy the climb it is nice to find a spot in the shade and just sit with your feet in the shallows for a while until time to move on to the next place.

Been going to this beach for the last 5 years. It was our hidden gem and we loved everything about it. But never again. Whilst my children were swimming in the sea, the tourist boats just across the water emptied their sewage tanks into the sea, the sewage came in shore where my children were swimming. The staff at Germilier started to clear up the floating bits, but I was shocked and saddened when they said, it's fine, it will be clear in 10 minutes, it happens all the time... Sorry but I cannot let my children swim there anymore. Such a shame, Totally ruined it for us.

Gemiler / St Nicholas is a fun site to explore albeit it can be quite busy given it is s popular anchorage and is easily accessible from the mainland.
The island served as a religious sanctuary and has some interesting ruins on the way up to the panoramic viewpoint on the top including church ruins, some interesting mosaics, a long vaulted walkway down the ridge and a large cistern
Worth the effort to explore

2 different visitors here: Yacthies and tourist-gullets. It is nice to pay a few Lira, bring some wine and walk via the ruins to the top of the island to watch the sun setting in west.

Gemiler Island or Saint Nicholas Island is a must sea place while in the area.
We took a taxi boat to get here, and after a short ride a a bit of hiking we got out of words as the views are simply amazing and breathtaking.
Also the ride to get there is out of this world.

Gemiler Island (Turkish: Gemiler Adası) is an island located off the coast of Turkey near the city ofFethiye. On the island are the remains of several churches built between the fourth and sixth centuries AD, along with a variety of associated buildings. Archaeologists believe it was the location of the original tomb of Saint Nicholas.

Are there any restaurants or bars on the island? :) Thank you.

Are there any boats from Olu Deniz to Gemiler? I would ideally like the kind of boat that would moor near Gemiler where I could have a swim and go and explore the island. Is this possible? ;-)

You can hire boats in Oludeniz or Fethiye, either to be taken there or pilot yourself. If you pilot yourself, make sure you have some sea legs with you. Only hire a boat yourself, if you know what you are doing. I have no idea what the hire rates are !! Ask around with the firms on Oludeniz seafront. You may be surprised 👍
