This is another small piece to the puzzle of Ephesus. Might not be what everyone expected however you need to remember when & who built this amazing structure?

Like the Celsus Library, this attraction is more intact than the other attractions near by. I took picture of the signage and this attraction itself. I wondered how it looked like prior to its damage.

The Trajan fountain is the main and most beautiful edifice along the Curetes main street (not counting the library which is at its end).
It's located at the middle of it, just across the wealthy hill side Terrace houses for the rich. The fountain named after the great Roman Emperor supplied water for the city and dates back to 2nd c when the city was at its peak.
It's one of the restored sites in Ephesus to be conserved and admired for future generations.

Republican Rome called the monuments the names of the heroes, mythical or real. Horatius and Curiatius, Gaius Mucius Scaevola. Imperial Rome replaced the Republican virtues of honor with servility. So everything is named after the names of emperors, consuls, or at least just the big money bags. The temple next to it is named after Hadrian, and this fountain is named after his uncle Trajan. Only one of the feet remained of Trajan. Or rather from his giant statue standing on a column. It was installed in the center of a large decorative pool. The inscription at the base said that the world rested at the feet of the Emperor. However, all that remains of the Emperor-General are the monuments in Dacia, the famous column and market in Rome, and the fountain here in Ephesus...

I loved Ephesus! . Seeing the ancient ruins, looking at the beautiful countryside and in my minds eye watching tbe citizens of Ephesus go about their daily business. A visit to this place will take you to another time, life and world!

This is applicable to the entire city of Ephesus. It is still under excavation and most of it is in ruins. If you do not read about the ancient city in advance or do not rent the audio guide here then you will be bored to death. Only the Celsus library and the Amphitheatre are mostly fully excavated. Same goes for Trajan fountain. You need to read its history and understand its significance for the old city of Ephesus to appreciate the structure.
