Due to the reduction in tourists, it was quiet and lots of spare seats, so everyone got an excellent view. Please do appreciate in silence and save pictures until later - they do put on a second dance for pictures, but the first is an actual full ceremony and should be watched only. It was explained they are a special... More

We'd seen whirling dervishes as hotel entertainment but this performance was quite different and mystical - mesmerising as others have commented.Quoting from the leaflet ' the sema ceremony represents a mystical journey of man's spiritual ascent through mind and love to perfection'. Yes, the free leaflets explain and set the performance in context. Highly recommended.

It may be a mystical journey for those who practice this activity but I was dizzy just watching it. The dervishes whirl themselves into almost a catatonic state that is hard to comprehend since they don't appear to have been drugged!. Although this is a religious activity purporting to be a temporary ascension into a higher life, for those of... More

The dance of the whirling Dervishes is a called Sema. The history of this custom begins with Rumi, a 13th-century Persian poet and theologian. It is part of Turkish custom, history, beliefs and culture which represents a man’s spiritual journey. Our guide explained the seven main parts to the ceremony or alternatively if you are not on a tour, there... More

I agreed to see the whirling dervish ceremony because everyone else were going. I didn't know much about it. I'm so glad I went. The ceremony is mesmerizing. It consists of "seven parts, each part symbolizes a stage of the mystic journey to ascension, Mira in Turkish"..according to their brochure. If your journey proceeds to Konya, and Rumi's tomb, this... More

This was on our tour, towards the end of a long day, and our guide told us little of what to expect. In hindsight, it would have made more sense if we'd been told to pick up a leaflet (they were available in a dozen languages) BEFORE we entered the room. Once the event started, there was no explanation of... More

If simply expecting a theater show you maybe disappointed. However if you understand the long religious background to this "sect", that the ritual you are privileged to watch is disciple and meditation, you will come away with a WOW!

I would not recommend to see the Whirling Dervishes because after 5 minutes you will be nodding off. What you see on You tube of this ritual is exactly what you'll see in person.

I was very moved by the religious feeling and the amazing whirling that the Sufic followers practised here in the Caravanserai. Many visitors who were also captivated by the movements but also the feeling of pure meditative and religious feeling that was conveyed by the followers of Rumi. The music the instruments and the whole event was something that I... More
