After our morning balloon experience we visited the caves of Goreme Oren Yeri. This is a designated World Heritage site. The caves have frescos dating back to the early beginning of the Catholic Church, unfortunately some of the frescos were defaced by the Turks. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes as it requires a bit of a walk and climb to visit this unique site.

Avanos is a small town by the side of a river and is famous for pottery. There are a number of houses with the exterior made of yellow sandstone. Spent some time at the hanging bridge over the river and the small park adjacent to it. Nothing much in this town apart from the above

There are some routines for me in Avanos. One of my favourite spots is Asma köprü (The drawbridge). I love it. Each time I visit it, I use it for transportation and fun.It is because you can witness how people push other people to keep walking on it. Some want to cry out of fear. Thus, there are so many photo shooting like bride and grooms for their albums. The feeding ducks and geese is also enjoyable with kids.

Went to Avanos from Urgup as part of a day tour. Avanos is a beutiful little town (a big village) which is famous for pottery making for thousands of years. Turkey longest river, the red river, passes through the town. The river throws up red mud which is used for making pottery. Also ashes from nearby dormant volcanoes are also used for making pottery. I wish i had spent more time in Avanos. Besides buying some pottery, what i liked was the calmness of the place. The river gently flows through the town and there is a park besides the river and lots of chairs next to the river where one can just sit and enjoy the river. My ideal place for a turkish tea. More than pottery i liked the overall feel of the place. And yes, there are some really lovely restaurants where one can enjoy turkish food.

I found better pottery in the rest of turkey and at a far reasonable price. do not recommend it... its purely designed for tourists. however there was some fun in seeing they guy make something on the wheel , but to take a trip all the way for a 5 minute demonstration is not worth the travel time

This is one of the famous town on this area. Swinging bridge and creek of red river is one the part u should visit. you can make your own pots in the workshops and then buy them. You can walk nearby the river and feed up the ducks . Try local restaurants and buy some local souvenirs. Note: no free parking.
