A really interesting place. Having visited many ancient sites it was strange to be able to walk all over it! The amphitheatre give an impression of the size of the original site. We saw some interesting wildlife here too including a tortoise and a black lizard.

visited as an add on to a small group tour. Not very touristy.A simple site of ruins of the major city of the Lycean League.
It fits into a niche in the history of this area and as such,is an interesting place to visit.
Toilets were not open. Hence the lower rating

This UNESCO site is only small and so close to Kalkan - we were surprised to be the only ones there. Limited signage so worth having a guide to explain how this place was such a pivotal part of history.

We visited here as my son is studying classics and it really brought history to life.

A taxi from Kalkan will wait for you while you explore this great site.

There is a little shop that sells water as it can be very hot here

This is a great Lycian ruins site! The amphitheater is huge and very well restored and the surrounding tombs are very unusual. Some are shaped like houses, some are carved into cliffs and some are on top of high towers. Take a long walk around the site and find out of the way structures. Unfortunately some of the most important pieces of history were taken out of here by the British and are in London. Note the intricate carvings on the tombs.

Visiting Xantos (or Ksantos in Turkish) I was so lucky to be accompanied by my travel expert Sabahattin Alkan and met Durmuş Kiraz in this ancient city. With his experience with archeological team for 35 years Durmuş Kiraz explained to us the detail knowledge about Xantos with its temples, baths, basilica, obelisk, theater for orchestra as well as gladiator actions, obelisk written in three languages, walls which were built in three different periods of Lycia - Romans - Byzantium. Anyway we met Durmuş Kiraz senior historian by chance. He always sits down around Harpy Tomb. …
