Whilst the itinerary was awesome - you have to work hard to get everything that is written in the itinerary. My wife and I recently did this tour and we were pleased we got to see the bits that mattered, albeit we needed to flex and enquire each day to ensure the guide, Saharansky and us were on the same page.

To summarise, the experience was not good and it’s a combination of all of us not being on the same page; the difficultness navigating our guide; and Saharansky not being clear on inclusions to both tourists and their contractors. Given you have more drivers, you need to budget to tip more people, and entry fees to the Berber home are not included. We also didn’t get water from day three and fended for ourselves.

This is our experience and others may not have the same experience, and hope that if you choose to go ahead that it won’t be as bad as ours and make sure you have WhatsApp handy - they are super responsive on it:

On the first day we met our nice driver in Tunis, and he mentioned we’d need to pick up our guide in Hammamet (an hour away) - we thought that was odd and might mean it’d deviate from our itinerary and we’d need to claw back time later. We arrived in Hammamet and received our bottle of water from the driver and eventually met our guide and first impressions were questionable as he had a colourful personality that resembled a sales person. We were taken to sites on the itinerary and encouraged to look ant carpets (which we didn’t buy) and shown to our hotel for two nights. There wasn’t clarity about how we navigate the included dinner at the hotel instead the guide ‘cracked a joke’ asking ‘you expect me to pay?’ - hmmm I was a little more suspicious…

Second day was when it started to get colourful. The guide was late and we eventually were one our late due to securing a new driver for the day as we needed a 4x4 driver - Before we left the hotel, I asked what our itinerary was as he hadn’t clarified the itinerary for the day and I showed him the itinerary as stated on the Saharansky website - it appeared he was concerned about some detail and made a call to the office - we don’t speak French or Arabic, so wasn’t sure the nature of the chat - I found out later… - anyway, we stopped to get a bottle of water process to use for the day and we were taken to our first site and the guide encouraged us to hire a local guide at the site ‘for a tip’ - I was suss and queries why we needed to hire a guide when we had hired a guide on this tour - he said he was fine doing it but didn’t want the local to frown upon this as it may take away their work - interesting… the day went on and he exclaimed our tour was done for the day. We didn’t think so as we had not seen three sites. I showed a picture of one of the sites - the igloo of Lars Homestead - the guide said it’s not included And continued stating that we were not the first ones to query this - I was disappointed. When we got back to the hotel the guide encouraged us to tip the driver for the day as it was a different driver, we queried the three sites via WhatsApp to Saharansky and they said the it’s included - but they only honed in on the Lars Homestead and neglected the other two Sites, the dune sea and Kratt Dragon ridge. Meanwhile I receive a call from the guide and the guide said that he had just spoken to the Saharansky office and argued our case to see the igloo - funny that, we had just been texting them via WhatsApp. The point here is the guide claimed he had done the work to argue the case, but we think it’s suspect given we had queried it with the office one minute earlier - had we not, we would be able to get to see the igloo the following morning. We didn’t know who to trust.

Third day started with the guide late again and claiming he slept bad and may not continue with us for the Sahara part of our itinerary due to fears it may damage his vertebrae due to pre-existing conditions. We made several stops so he could get anti inflammation ointment. Today marked the beginning of not getting any water provided to us as had previously thought the other bottles were the daily bottle. We went to the igloo - was sooo worth fighting for it! we didn’t get to see the other two sites we missed and resumed the itinerary. The guide made a point to try to earn our trust for the tardiness, not going with us to Sahara desert and missing critical sites. Whilst the guide made an effort to write notes down for our trip to the Sahara desert and introduced to our new driver - who was so nice and looked after us - we were relieved though.

Fourth day started well but got sour pretty quickly as my understanding of entry fees included in the inclusions of this tour included paying the Berber family site. I was wrong as I had been encouraged by the guide to ‘tip with some coins’ - I only had big notes and some small local change and thought it would be sufficient. I was sooo wrong! The guide saw me out some money down and he whispers on my ear and says ‘what you did was an insult’ - I was so embarrassed! every time he had encouraged me to tip I had been asking ball park as I want to tip the right amount. His guidance of some coins left me out in the cold. At lunch I told him how I felt and he said that we need to make an effort to tip more and buy more from locals - I understand his logic but didn’t quite agree given my understanding of what should be included in this tour. We queried about water being provided and the guide said it isn’t and we had to pay for it. We didn’t want to argue more and queried via WhatsApp - Saharansky confirmed it is included and encouraged us to get water from
The hotel and they will cover it. Our animosity toward the guide and Sahansky grew. At this point we didn’t know of Saharansky had been providing adequate info to the guide or if the guide was ignoring it or just general miscommunication. At the end of the day, we as tourists were suffering.

Fifth day - the guide was early and we set off on a grand plan to claw time so we can do more of the itinerary in one day - we welcomed this as we were counting our days down to reduce anymore time with our guide. The plan was to take a Different route. It didn’t work as we lost time retracing our steps as the route led us down a road that was not adequate for our city car. This day ended late but glad we did the remainder of the sites and we could just go back to our drop off point the next day.

Sixth day - I checked out of hotel and was asked to pay a tax. I had not paid for any taxes on the first four nights and was surprised we had to pay this - we asked Saharansky and they said the guide will pay. The guide arrived (late, again) and he said no I needed to pay. I said the company will pay and that he needed to make that payment - the guide argued back and said we had to pay and that he will be waiting in the car as we needed to go. I was so p**ssed. He was so rude. I couldn’t wait to finish this but knew we had a 7 hour trip back. We dropped off our guide first in Sousse and continued with our driver to our drop off point one hour later - RELIEF!

Great tour itinerary - you get to see a lot of southern tunisia with a fun lens (star wars) in a short space of time. The sites didn’t disappoint.

The experience however was soured by the poor tour management. We spent most of the tour fighting for clarity and for execution of what was suppose to be included. Examples - bottled water, three of the sites listed on the program (the guide stayed quiet on missing these sites until we challenged it and in the end only one was included).

It came down to a questionable relationship between the guide and saharansky - the guide, on a daily basis had to ask us what was included as he was apparently told different information. The only information we had on tour inclusion was what was provided on the saharansky website! It felt very unprofessional and was a first for us in touring experience.

The guide was a poor communicator, disorganised, late most days and felt more like an admin person than a guide. He spent most of the trip placing pressure on us to tip him and the driver, and others along the way. We felt vulnerable, unprepared and unsafe most of the trip and for this reason, the experience was poor.

The top advice for this tour is to ensure there is absolute clarity on tour inclusions and expectations on tipping from the beginning. Most professional tour groups outline these things clearly at the start so there is no surprise for all parties but this wasn’t the case here.

From the moment we arrived in Tunis we were looked after extremely well. Karim met us in the Airport guided us through and brought us to our hotel . The hotel was very good. Staff were very friendly. Immaculately clean , beautiful outside space with pool. Buffet breakfast was excellent. Transfers to and from Tunis were punctual with Ahmed. The cruise from Medenine to Djerba was very pleasant. The food during the tour was varied, plentiful and well presented. Tozeur and Tataouine were amazing . Tour Guides: Brilliant guides friendly, informative, gave us time to do our own thing .and looked after us brilliantly. We would recommend them to everyone. Our driver just left us feeling safe as he drove. The mini bus was always immaculate . He was always on time and so friendly. Recommend this company to any person thinking of traveling to Tunisia who does not want to travel in a Large Group.

Do not use this poor excuse for a company. False advertising. Ruined my boyfriends irradiated but not going to the places they said they would go to and missing off the canyon. This is a 4 hour tour and they only did 3 and missed the main attraction. Disgusting.

I bought a ticket for the three attractions there. I went to see the crocodiles, then the Djerbian house. I went to the café near Lella Hadhria Museum to drink something. As I went to enter the Museum with my ticket (not perforated), the employee at the entrance prvented me from entering in a very impolite way. Although I showed him my ticket, he still refused in the same rude way. That is a scam! That guy is a shame to that wonderful park.

We booked a tour with this agency after having talked to them for 2 days. The tour was cancelled without notification because the payment link expired before we could have made the payment.
We had previously agreed on pick up location and time and at no moment we were told that the payment link had an expiration time. We woke up in the morning only to realise that the tour was cancelled. We were very excited to go on this tour and disappointed that there was unclear communication regarding the payment link.

Hello spartevan, Your friend contacted us for the tour booking via WhatsApp and we offered a discount for your group, we sent the payment link at 04:45PM local time but didn't receive any payment or reply, we sent a message asking if any help is needed with the payment process, then asked again if it's confirmed at 06:54PM, your friend informed us he will pay later but didn't open the payment link until 11:56PM which is over the notice time as no guide or driver would be available for confirmation at that time, we also cancelled the payment link at 10PM and informed your friend via email about this, your friend then sent a message at 02:30AM asking if the tour is confirmed for the next day, you mentioned the tour was cancelled while we never confirmed the tour and the only confirmation for a tour is the voucher which we never provided as the payment was never received. Don't hesitate to call us if there's anything we can help you with for your next trip. Our guide was Rafik H., who was excellent. He was easy to understand and clearly could have told us much more about the sites than we had time for. Despite asking many questions, we were not able to stump him! We highly recommend both SaharanSky and Rafik.

It’s worth visiting at certain times. We went late afternoon which just happened to be the feeding time for the crocs. Before that, they were just lying still which was pretty boring, but when they get the food out there is a lot of activity

Two top museums - the Islamic art one and the heritage one, a nice space and outdoors, and, for fans, the crocodile and turtle farm.
Only damper. The cafeteria is extremely expensive so avoid eating or drinking there.
Bravo to the designers and this who are keeping this space well maintained.
