The Udon Thani Museum is an interesting look at the history both the local area and this northern region of Thailand. Not all of the narratives are translated into English which limits their usefulness to those of us who do not read Thai, but in many cases, the pictures give context.
If one is in Udon Thani for more than a few days, take a bit of time out of your schedule and visit this attraction.

I happened to find this place on Google Maps on my second visit to Udon Thani. Visited at Bolt. I have never seen such a well-built museum in Thailand. We had a great time. Does that mean Tuesday afternoon?
Just the two of us. Admission is also free. From now on, we will also take a look at the ducks in the lake in the back. I recommend this place.

This little museum was lovely, but still more to do for non Thai speakers. While the placards are (mostly) in English and Thai, The audio is just in Thai. But well worth a visit to put Udon Thani in context.

I went today (2015 Jan 20) and found this place entirely closed until at least 2016 Jan. Also the position shown on the map is wrong by about 2 kilometers. Aaaaarg! The real position is just south of Prachak lake.

- It was an old colonials style building and it was used as a school and some office before and it took about 3 years to renovate (quite a long time compare it what we get from it)
- I went there in Jan 2018 and there was no entrance fee but you can donate in a box, they might sell the entrance ticket in the future? not sure
- the exhibition was kind of interactive to play with but not as good as those ones in BKK
- close to Nong Prajack park
- although the exhibition was quite little interesting but it's lack of information of history. The VDO only explain in Thai (no English, not even subtitle)
- There are some English explanation but not in every details
- In many exhibition room, there are old photos, people from the past but that was it, no explanation who they were or what was the photo about.
- 1 hr. or less would be enough to look around
- what interspersing about the building was the wall structure, there is one room you can see the wall that they use bridge to build along with wood (and there was no explanations and details about it)
- toilets are clean (I went there when it was newly opened)
- there is an elevator for handicap but the pathway and walk way has a lot of step which is not quite suitable for wheelchair, they said they will fix this in the future though
Well, glad to see that this city has got museum of its own but they really need to work on the information and details of history and plus... the English version too

This museum has been closed for renovation for a while. When we were there in January 2016, we could see that the building was in a good condition when we looked at it from the outside (just renovated).
When we got closer, we were told that the museum was closed for renovation. An exhibition will open on the first floor next month (February 2016). The exhibition on the ground floor will open at a later date.
Even though the place was closed, we were allowed to enter and a man from the museum showed us around on the first floor. We could see a part of the planned exhibition on the first floor (the work was not completed).
There is a room devoted to Prince Prajak, who is regarded as the founder of Udon Thani. There is another room devoted to a Buddhist monk, who lived and worked at the temple called Wat Pa Ban Tat (located ca. 20 km south of Udon Thani).
It is a beautiful building and when the exhibitions are open to the public this museum will be worth a visit.
PS. The museum is located on Phosi Road just south of Nong Prajak Lake Park in the northern part of the city.

This is not the world's greatest museum but well worth the visit if your are in Udon Thani. Unless you visit the same time as a school group there will be very few people here at this small museum. The staff are very friendly and the museum is very well planned. There is many local artifacts and much of it is also explained in English. Entry is charged by donation.

On my 4th visit to Udon I thought I better go check out this museum. It is quite an informative museum about the history of Udon Thani. It is interesting and free.

Visiting this museum after its renovation was a great experience. Well laid out with most information on both Thai and English. Gives a very good background to the history of Udon Thani.
And it's free.
I'm just surprised that the museum doesn't have any real signboards towards the man road. It looks like a very anonymous building.
