The kayaking was good, beautiful scenery and our guide was good. Seen a few monkeys and a little croc. Could do with some new kayaks as the front seats were broken (we used double kayaks) so whoever's in the front will have sore legs and back. The lunch was nice too.
Now, the "swimming".....it was a dirty river with 20 kids in it, not the crystal clear water I was told 😑 And the toilets there are absolutely disgusting! So I'd recommend the kayaking but avoiding the swimming. Oh and I only paid 900 baht so make sure to haggle.

We did kayaking in Ao Thalane, it was an amazing experience. We did it in the second half of the day. Mangrove forest, kayaking between canons, it was just beautiful. We opted it instead of island hopping from krabi. Few points: you can do it even if you do not know swimming. One can also take helper along for small amount, which makes kayaking easy for beginners. This place is highly recommended.

This was a lot of fun. We did a morning trip here to kayak around the mangroves. The kayaks are tandem and we had a guide giving some information which was nice. Went part way into a cave, the lagoon and mangroves. 7km of kayaking but it is quite easy and steady, not fast paced. There are basic toilet facilities and shower and a restaurant. Great activity and nice for a change of scenery. We all really enjoyed this.

Fascinating experience in the bays and gorges of the mangrove forest. We booked a half-day tour directly at the hotel with True Leisure. The driver and our guide were very professional and everything was perfectly organized! We went in a two-person canoe, which also proved helpful. One of us was able to take photos. The solo riders stayed quite a bit behind and had to pull the kayak over a small sandbank! Water and waterproof bags as well as melons at the end were also included! A very successful trip into a dreamlike landscape!

We did not do a tour - If you are there early enough it is a simple trip around the water and caves, you can do on your own BUT you need to know when the tide will go out -- we did not know and around 4:30 kayaked back out to NO water -- we had to carry the kayak over the mud for two hours (two adults two children) which was a nightmare -- monkeys everywhere not to mention the mud was more like quicksand -- no one was looking for us either.
Once we got back, around sunset, the lady giggled at us and told us "next time come back earlier"

This was a fabulous morning’s kayaking trip and highly recommended!
We booked with Krabi Fasai Tours and paid B1440 for a family of four - incl one child. Our guide was great - his name was Banana!
We were picked up at 8.45am in a covered pick up truck with benches along the sides and travelled for about 40 minutes from Ao Nang to Ao Thalane. There were 8 in total in our group so we had 4 kayaks plus one for Banana which was a great size for a group. We passed other groups that had a lot more people in.
The first part of the kayaking was quite hard work across the open estuary until you turn into the canyon - especially if you are an adult sharing a kayak with a small child!
Once you turn into the canyon it’s really relaxing drifting along with the tide looking out for monkeys, crabs and herons with the amazing limestone cliffs on each side and mangrove and palm trees around you.
We were lucky to see some monkeys, spider crabs, birds and a couple of big monitor lizards.
There were quite a few other tour groups kayaking at the same time but Banana knew some quiet routes and took us to a fabulous Lagoon where you are surrounded by the limestone cliffs. Getting to the lagoon and doing a circular route is only possible at high tide though so check the tide times before you book and choose a morning or afternoon trip accordingly, otherwise you will only get to do a short trip into the canyon and back out the same way if it is low tide.
Wear clothes you are happy to get wet - you can leave dry clothes at the place you pick up the kayaks. Also take a towel and put sunscreen on and mosquito repellent.
When we got back, we had the option of buying a photo they took at the beginning of the trip for B100 but there was no hard sell.
Thank you for a great morning kayaking Banana!

I called over the phone the day before, the person wasn't speaking english, he handled the phone to another guy and I thought he understood all of the details about the booking. The next day, me and my friend were waiting infront of our house but no one was coming. I called again, the person wasn't speaking any English again! Then I wrote on their Facebook page asking them what's going on and after 30 minutes I received an answer saying that I can change the trip for the afternoon. This didn't work for us because we had another plans. Half of our day was lost. I do not recommend booking over the phone.

Since I knew the loop around the canyon and back on the river, I decided to go on my own. So I negotiated to rent a kayak and the first tour operator asked for 700 baht, you can keep the kayak for how long you wanted. Way too expensive! I went to another and got one for 400 baht. Much better, knowing that after 3 hours of paddling, you tend to want to end it rather sooner when you are not that young anymore. I had checked the tide chart prior to my trip. The trick is to use the incoming tide to enter the canyon and the mangrove parts, or go at full tide, and use the outgoing tide when you rejoin the river, on your way back. It makes the paddling that much easier! You can still wander a bit towards the open sea, along the coast. It is nice, but be aware of the strength of the tide, it can easily make your return paddling a bit tiring. And lastly, sunblock and water are a must.

We were picked up from our hotel as scheduled but made to cramped in a pick up van. We wouldn’t have mind but there were no seat belts and yet we were driven at high speeds to the Kayaking venue, which happened for the return trip as well. And after arriving at the venue, we had to wait for 45 mins before the briefing proper started.
During the course of the briefing & equipping, it seemed that life jackets were optional which in my opinion is not. Firstly, you had to cross a stretch of open waters and secondly, I believe Insurance would not cover you if the appropriate precautions were not exercised.
Secondly, our group was just too big. There needs to be a capacity limit to what this Kayaking event could cater for. Apparently on at least 2 occasions, stragglers were left on their own without adequate supervision. This is an area that needs to be reviewed.
Experience wise, I agree with the rest of the reviews here. The scenery and exposure to the environment made it memorable however safety has to be carefully considered.

I went to this place from railay beach. I spend 700 bath for a half tour. As a part of kayaking you get 3hrs for some 8kms of breath taking views around the mangroves ,caves, monkeys and if lucky some snakes.

Hello,
Would anyone know how to access the Ao Thalane public beach without having to go through private properties or resorts? I am referring to the beach roughly between the Thalane Resort and Le Passe-Temps Resort, across the soccer stadium. Magnificent views of the bay, but seemingly difficult access! Many thanks in advance,
Cheers

Hi! Glad to see you had such a great time. I was wondering what tour company you used, if any? We're looking to book and have seen people say "do not use this company" - but few saying "this one was great!" - or did you just rent kayaks yourself, & how did you do this?? :)
Written 29 July 2019
To answer precisely, this tour company is good. What they usually do is - mix with group of tourists and end up not seeing much.
I would recommend ask for separate one and take guide along with you. We did the same so got chance to go deep inside and had breathtaking experience..
Cheers for your trip
