About
Chungkai was one of the base camps on the Burma-Siam railway and contained a hospital and church built by Allied prisoners of war. The war cemetery is the original burial ground started by the prisoners themselves, and the burials are mostly of men who died at the hospital. There are now 1,426 Commonwealth and 313 Dutch burials of the Second World War in this cemetery.

These sites are well maintained and with CWG Commonwealth War Graves and are sureal place to come and pay your respects and to understand the scale of the sacrifice and toll this railway had when construction by POW in WWII.

Take you time and walk around and absorb the amount of young men who perished. It's a place to get a great understanding of the toll for the Death Railway

An opportunity for my GF and I to pay our respects to the thousand of allied troops murdered in the building of the Death Railway
Spotless, and wonderfully kept, the war graves commission should be commended
Harrowing to see the ages and numbers of those who lost their lives

We first saw the cemetery, then rode on the railway and rounded the trip up with a short hike in the Hellfire Pass. The cemetery definitely puts things in perspective.

Vey moving place and exceptionally well maintained. It is of some comfort to me that these men are now at peace in such a wonderful place so far removed from the horrors that they endured.

Situated on the original site of Chungkai camp's cemetery. A very peaceful place to reflect on how fortunate we are not to be living in those hard times and the sacrifices that were made during WWII by so many. Well worth a visit, as is seeing the nearby railway cutting.

Very well tended garden of remembrance from a bygone era where not only British troops faught but trops from many nations. These people are individually buried with poignant inscriptions over their last resting place. To say it brought a tear to my eye would be an understatement as some of the graves hold teenage warriors who should have been enjoying their youth and not facing the harsh realities of war and the ultimate sacrifice!

The cemetery is well kept. Gravestones are set in an orderly manner. One of the gravestones engraved with a touching note which reads " IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY BELOVED HUSBAND "UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN" ". Maybe, the management should consider provision of a few parking spaces on the site.
