We booked two full day tours with Mellow Adventures and had an amazing time!!!! The first day was focused on the Death Railway history, and the second was on Erawan Park. While very different in nature, both tours were equally enriching and fun! Our tour guide, Luphat, was very knowledgeable, unbelievably polite, and dynamic. She managed to capture our teenager kids’ attention, which is not always an easy task. ;-)
In short: 5* experience, even better than what we expected, couldn’t have hoped for more!

Fantastic tour with mod (we called him mark).
Kanchanburi, started with a drive from Bangkok to river markets, history of the bridge on the river kwai, hellfire pass , waterfalls, hot springs, kayaking, we did so much it was amazing experience.
Mod took us to eat in local resturants. We had a ride on a raft to our over night accommodation on the river kwai a beautiful raft house. We were looked after so well. Mod was so lovely and informative about the history thai life in general we would highly recommend .
Our driver Tho was fantastic too . In all 11out 10.
Also thankyou stefan for your communications on the build up to it.

We had a 2 day trip in to Sai Yok nationalpark, where we lived in tents close to a local Village. We had an fantastic guide named Tik, who were so sweet and pasionated. He made sure we knew everything about the jungle around us, and that we got to taste delicious food from the local people - we had the Best time! Recommend Tik big time - Hope everybody gets him as their guide.

We did a four day three night package.our guide was Mai and our driver was Jae. we can say this was the best part of our vacation in Thailand. the Kanchanaburi area is absolutely gorgeous and we would’ve never seen so many remarkable places had it not been for Mellowadventures tours. I will review each section separately but we wanted to mention how wonderful this tour company is and if you plan on visiting Kanchanaburi, there’s no better tour guides than this remarkable team! So giving and responsive! I could go on forever just about the food and interesting restaurants we enjoyed. Don’t miss this jem of a province and Mellow Adventures is the perfect team to show it to you. Thank you for a life memory we will forever cherish.

We had a fantastic time on our two day trip to Kanchanaburi our driver and guide were fantastic. They had everything arranged and all we had to do was turn up. Every where we went for food was great and all really friendly. We would not have covered everything in two days on our own. The only downside was the Elephant camp we went too, unfortunately we had already been to an Elephant camp in Chiang Mai which was brilliant and showed you how elephants should be treated...not tethered or forced to do anything and constantly had access to food. I assumed that Mellow Trek would ensure that the places they took their guests were ethical, unfortunately the Elephant camp we were taken to was awful...you could tell how miserable the Elephants were, their mahoots were only interested in money and poking them with metal pointed stick to make them do things and they were tethered by the feet and neck to trees...also noticed there was barbed wire around the base of trees to stop then rubbing to itch themselves....I'm afraid I found it really upsetting and couldn't wait to leave, was just devastated I couldn't take the poor elephants with me. My only comment to Mellow Trek...you offer a fantastic service and we really enjoyed our time with our guide but maybe consider only taking your guests to animal places where conservation and ethics are more important than money and profit.

I choose mellow trek because all the nice things people were saying here. But it turns out that it is nothing special. It just like a group tour offered everywhere but you have a private car. we pay 7800 bath for a day trip for two person. As I know a sailor work for mandrain oriental hotel in bangkok only get 8000 to 9000 bath a month. So it is really a pricey tour. And they probably only pay a few hundreds to the tour guild and another few hundreds to the driver. We only spend two hours in erawan waterfall. one hour climb up to the 7th level non stop, one hour down. I guess we only spend around 20 minutes in the water. And keep being reminding that we have to leave right away.
we have the elephant bath and visit the cafe. Overall it is nice trip. The guild is friendly, the driver barely speak a word. But I think hire a driver and a car it would be the same fun. And far more cheaper.
If you are lazy and you don't want to search and plan and you don't mind pay the extra money. It is ok to choose this tour.

We are two families with five children aged 10 - 15, boys and girls. Our tour was tailor-made with excellent advice from Steffen when booking. We had unbelievable experiences which we would never have discovered on our own. Everything was organised and paid for upfront: the transport, food and accommodation. All the Thai meals we ate were delicious and authentic.
Uzi was the most delightful host and quickly became our very good friend.
Our second day with Mellow Trek was the highlight of our whole holiday. We were picked up after breakfast from P Guest House by long-tail boat and whisked up the lake and river to a Mon village where we started a fantastic elephant trek. After a picnic of fried rice for lunch we then bamboo rafted back to the village. In the afternoon we transferred to the Krit floating raft houses, where we played on the raft and body rafted down the river, for the rest of the day.
Everyone in our party from youngest to oldest would recommend Mellow Trek.
Finn, aged 10 says "Uzi was cool".

Great trip. Expensive, but worth the money. Our guide, Gee, was very good, full of knowledge of her hometown and the surrounding area. Visited Erawan falls on a Sunday - very busy with Thai tourists, would have been better to go on a week day. Climb to seventh level is worth the effort. The kayaking trip was my favourite. Really atmospheric and peaceful. Lovely food and accomodation. We loved the local speciality- barbecue banana chips! Elephant washing was great, but did not like to see them chained up looking bored. Swimming in the Kwai Noi was unsupervised and I was uneasy when my son aged 13 was left with a group of people he didn't know and we had heard there were strong currents. However it was fine and he enjoyed it.

Dear Ali M Thank you for your helpful feedback. I am glad to hear you liked your trip with us and really enjoyed the kayaking and the local foods. Generally we do take our customers to Erawan on weekdays and in the early morning so we can climb it before the tourists arrive, sometimes schedule unfortunately doesn't allow this. There is always a guide watching when you go to swim or any other activities and everyone, no matter their age and swimming skills, is obliged to wear life jacket when going in or on the water. There are also lifebelts and floats available to make swimming in the rever even more enjoyable and secure. I am glad your son liked the cool water. We hope you got home safe with lots of unforgettable memories and would be happy to see you again soon. Best Regards, Steffen Trulsen Owner Mellow Trek

We had a wonderful time the first day, with our guide and driver picking us up all the way from Bangkok and driving us to Kanchanaburi. The waterfall hike was hard work (you need to be fit) but definitely worth it, with beautiful clear waterfalls, and little fish in the pools which nibble at your feet. Lunch afterwards was delicious as we were so hungry from all that hiking. The stop at Hell's Fire Pass was very moving and the audio guide was very informative. Staying in the huts along the river was a lot of fun. While the accommodation is very basic, it is clean and the food provided was delicious, being brought over in a canoe from the kitchen on the other side of the river. It was fun when they towed the raft upstream so you could jump off to float down the river to the waterfall just near the huts (lifejackets provided). A perfect way to end the afternoon after what was a very hot day. Eating dinner on the floating raft while watching the sunset was just lovely. Unfortunately the next day was not so good, and in fact the exact opposite to the first day. They took us to a historic cave from the war days along the railway with a lot of stalls selling souvenirs, but the cave itself was not much. They then to a terrible elephant trekking camp under a bridge where you could see the elephants were clearly not happy and swaying from side to side. The mahouts tried to sell riders ivory products, and there were baby elephants shackled out of sight from the main building, calling out to the bigger elephants when they rode past. I refused to ride as elephants should not be ridden in that way, and we didn't stay long as it was too upsetting. The manger tried to explain to me that they looked after the elephants well but that they had to teach them to behave as they are stubborn animals! I don't even want to imagine what they do to the poor creatures! A stop at Elephant's World in Kanchanaburi would have been a much better experience if you want to interact with elephants. Lunch was next to the Bridge over the River Kwai, but at a very touristy buffet type restaurant and it was a very disappointing end to our tour after having such a wonderful first day. The guide and driver were very nice though, and even arranged for our luggage to be transported to and from the huts by the river so we didn't have to lug them across the bridge. A one day trip with overnight stay would have been better.

Planning to visit Kanchanaburi for the Thai-Burma Death Railway, we found Mellow Trek on Tripadvisor and were impressed by the rave reviews, from seasoned travellers and novices alike, and it seemed a two-day trip would get us around a series of dispersed locations and activities efficiently. Steffen was very prompt in answering initial and subsequent queries though he did not offer any options beyond the website tours. We chose tour 2.1, which included Hellfire Pass, the River Kwai Bridge and some other locations on the historic railway but given our expressed interest in the railway history, we wish we had been offered an alternative with extended time at Hellfire Pass. But before we got there we didn't understand enough about what was there to request this. The Pass consists of an excellent museum, and a walk down into and along the Pass to the main memorial. Beyond that there is a longer track encompassing more of the railway and a return up the hill to the museum via a different route and views. An audioguide is provided at the museum, mainly for the exterior sections, which includes wonderful first-hand accounts from POWs. This area was for us the best part of our two days but we felt rushed here and we were not able to do the extended walk on the railway or listen to all the audio commentary. The other historic railway locations visited on the tour were also interesting (and we were lucky enough to catch the train going through at two of them) but they were by nature much quicker stops.

Of the other activities, the Erawan Falls are lovely, rising in seven sets of falls with beautiful blue pools, much like the Kuang Si Falls out of Luang Prabang in Laos. Swimming in the pools is a hoot as you get nibbled by the fish. It is a reasonably stiff climb to the top, slippery in parts (wear more solid sandals/water shoes, rather than thongs). The Sai Yok Park and Falls area was also lovely and the 'rafting' was unexpected, a large covered raft towed upstream to some lovely falls then floated downstream to tie up under another set of falls for a bracing shower at the end of the raft platform, or you could jump in at the first falls and 'body raft' downstream. The downstream kayak trip was pleasant and easy, with some dramatic cliff scenery in the early stretches. However, the elephant camp was really quite sad - the ride was very short (less than half an hour, including a stop in the middle) and just a sales opportunity for photos, and for the mahouts try to sell their 'elephant bone' jewellery. We didn't swim with the elephants as the river was quite uninviting.

At the end of the second day, we had organised for the driver to take us straight on to Ayutthaya - a difficult drive which he did well and in the promised time - well worth the additional cost to save time making this trip by minibus the next day.

This is an interestingly varied tour but we were disappointed because we didn't cover all that was available at our key interest area at Hellfire Pass, and it felt a bit awkward with only two of us in a big 4WD, ticking off the activities. Our guide, Rush was very pleasant but we sometimes felt we weren't given enough information about the activities and we certainly didn't get the great range of local insights through the course of the tour so valued by other reviewers, though we did have some interesting dinner conversation. Food was generally good but lunch on the first day was a bit skimpy after all the activity climbing up to the falls, whereas it was generous on the second day. Organisation was generally very good with the range of activities covered, though there were a couple of small glitches - 15mins late picking us up on Day 1 - no big deal but just enough to start worrying, and on Day 2 the driver did not collect our luggage and daypacks from the raft house area as expected while we were kayaking, so they were left somewhere across the river with an unknown level of security for a couple of hours till we came by later.

For payment - deposit was by Paypal and we particularly liked that Mellow Trek absorbed the Paypal costs so the amount you paid was the amount they credited to the tour. Balance was in cash on first day of tour.
