This is quite a nice area to walk. Kanchanaburi has a lot of war history for Australians and all the areas are a must see to get a real understanding of the place.

Close to the bridge we came across it by chance, lined with little restaurants where you can also get a drink and enjoy the view of a very quiet river. Only fast boats for tourists and at around 10pm a party boat crawls past down...More

The area around the bridge is a little touristy, but as you move out there are quieter restaurants, some of which are actually on the water. Our choice was not far from the hotel.
