Anyone who comes here and doesn’t like it can’t truly like Thailand as this is one of the most peaceful places I’ve found. No annoying loud tourists taking narcissistic pouty selfies just long tail boats and locals enjoying the water, food and surroundings. There’s some good food to be had from the lady on the corner hut overlooking the water. We came here twice in our 5 days in Chiang Rai. Nothing beats nature and the tranquility that sometimes comes with. I hope to one day return.

First time I visited this place was 40 years ago, and used to be a very good, peaceful, natural river that link to the Mae Kok river, with many small boats plying along the river, now with the development, things are very different, would rather it had stayed as it was. The river water draft is very much shallow now and not so clear anymore.

Chiang Rai Beach is a great place to relax by the river. Huts to relax in and eat some food and have some beers. Mostly Thais visit the beach. So a good place to get away from boring and annoying farang tourists.

CR Beach is a good place to chill, have a snack, a full meal soft drinks and beer. The water can be shallow in the dry season though. Warning..... the water is poluted by farm runoff and is part of natures toilet. It is down stream from the elephant camps and has fecal materal in th water. My family came down with red spots ALL over our bodies.

If you’re in Chiang Rai for for than a couple days, an afternoon trip out to Chiang Rai Beach makes for a nice diversion from town life. Here you find a number of food stalls, drink stands and a small cafe. There are shaded spots along the river, as well as thatched huts where you can eat your snacks and have a cold drink.
The “beach” is just a series of exposed sandbars, as well as one larger grassed area by the riverbank where children play. The scenery is unremarkable, but it’s still a peaceful spot where you can relax for a while.
Tourist prices certainly do not apply here; barbecued chicken, spicy mango salad, mochi cake and two drinks cost us a grand total of 35 baht(!).
To get there, you can take a tuk tuk, which cost us 250 baht return including waiting time. Remember to tell the driver to go to “Pattaya Noi” (Little Pattaya) as “Chiang Rai Beach” is less widely understood.

We passed the beach on a long tail boat ride on the way to ride elephants. It’s not a real beach, rather loungers on the river. Didn’t look very appealing.

The Chiang Rai beach is largely a row of bamboo huts set amidst overgrown grass next to the river. The river itself was lovely and the scenery is nice but to walk down to look at the river was past piles of wood and other debris through long grass which I didn’t enjoy. We weren’t there at a meal time so didn’t try any food.

I was thinking of getting here around 6pm, does anyone know if the huts will still be serving food?
