It is a temple made by a local artist. Coloured mostly in White as the name suggest, the White temple. If you look closer the design is somewhat "dark themed", maybe you'll need a guide to explain about the design, I didn't have one that...More

When in Chiang Rai you gotta visit this. There are so much details you can discover in this temple are. I thought it would just be a white temple, but it's much more. And the best, it's free

This is the top must-see place in Chiang Rai. While it's a temple and there is a prayer hall, it's more a tourist attraction. Quite unpleasant when it gets crowded so luckily it was off-peak season. It was scorching hot at about 2.45pm when I...More

I asked the intercity bus to drop me off at the temple instead of the terminal, and arrived really early in the morning. Take note of the opening which is 8am instead of 6.30am. Even so there's a lot of restaurant and resting area to...More

Not just a temple for worshiping. In this Chiang Ria must-see, you’ll find contemporary art mixed with traditional. You’ll be surprised to see painting of modern pop art icon. The designs are so beautiful including the designs of the bathrooms. Souvenir shopping and dining opportunities...More

The recent work of an architect, it is a destination more than just a temple. An ongoing work of art, the first part is finished and looks like more additions are being added behind the temple, but don't let that hold you back there is...More

If you visit Chiang Rai, you cant miss this temple. Thailand is full of temples, but this one is that extra bit special and really should not be missed. A bit on the outskirts of the City towards the Singha farm.

This temple is gorgeous, the artwork is extraordinary. The artist who created the entire concept is quite famous (he also designed the clock tower). His gallery, next to the temple is very impressive. The paintings inside are capturing, powerful. There are some great places to...More

Hi. I am travelling to Chiang Mai during Songkran. All travel agencies are closed,so the only option is a private tour, which is quite expensive just for me and my girlfriend. Anyone interested in sharing a tour??? My preferred date is the 14th April. And the tour looks great, visiting cafe on the way to the White temple , visit included of course, ancient city, lunch, opium museum and boat. Please let me know if anyone is interested. kind regards

The White temple is not at Chiang Mai its at Chiang Rai a little over 3 hours away. I would recommend you take the government bus to Chiang Rai and from there take a taxi. The government bus has 3 classes, take the highest... More

A couple of questions please. 1. What was there before the artist build the White Temple in 1997? Was there a historic Wat in ruins there before? Some articles hint at this, but it's not clear. 2. Is there an actual Buddhist sangha there? I have seen pictures of Buddhist monks there, but has the Thai Buddhist community actually embraced it as a confirmed temple? Thanks!

I'm not sure of the pre-history of the white temple location. I believe it is a actual temple. You are required to cover up, remove shoes and hats like all the other wats we visited The place is not finished yet. They are... More

How much would it/ should it cost to get a red bus/cab to take me here? Or would it be cheaper to hire one for the day?
