We had a lovely time here at Negombo cooking class. We were welcomed with tea and some biscuits and then we started with the cooking. We got to choose vegetables to make curries with and then we got to work. She was very informative with the vegetables, spices and tools and we got to try everything. We are vegetarian and everything was made vegetarian friendly for us. We are super happy with our visit and recommend everyone to come here!

Family home cooking

Are you also curious how Sri Lankan families live and cook? This is the perfect way to find out. We booked a cooking class two weeks in advance and have been in contact through WhatsApp since the booking. Friendly messages back and forth until the cooking day was finally there.

We arrived by tuk tuk and were offered tea with some biscuits by our super friendly cooking teacher. We also had the pleasure to meet her 8 years old son who also helped us during the cook. After 15 minutes the cooking class began.
It was a nice mixture of free choice (curry style , vegetables / spice level) and following her authentic cooking style lead. We made 8 dishes in total in like 2-2,5 hours before we finally could try everything combined.

Great food and taste in a super friendly environment. We definitely recommend visiting this family for a cooking class.

Only downside was a little language barrier sometimes. We would've loved to ask more in depth questions in English about cooking and life in Sri Lanka, but that was a little bonus anyway.

This was a fabulous experience, we learned so much about Sri Lankan cooking and received a great recipe book at the end. Erangi was a lovely host - I recommend this experience to anyone interested in authentic Sri Lankan cooking.

The cook is very lovely and professional in the way she teaches us to make rice and curry. We could choose between a large variety of known and unknown ingredients like vegetables and species.
We learned to use different local kitchenware, f.e. the coconut scraper. And we really had to chop, cook and eat ourselves -:). The children were enthusiastic about it!
It was a cozy, personal, hygienic atmosphere in the familyhouse and kitchen.
The communication from the very beginning untill the end -when all the recipes came into in our e-mail box- was fast, clear and with warm attention.
We absolutely recommend this inspiring typical Sri Lanka workshop!

If you love Sri Lankan food then go to this class. We learnt so much in a few hours. Hosts were so friendly and informative. You do not want to miss leaving your holiday without doing this class. We cooked Dahl, about 8 vegetable dishes, rice and a fish curry. We prepared the vegetables, learnt about the spice combinations. Best of all was making the coconut milk from a fresh coconut and learning about first and second milk in the cooking process. The hosts take you into their home and kitchen. It really is a great way to learn to cook curry. You get the recipes sent to you to try to make at home! This will be a very memorable time in Sri Lanka.

This was such an authentic and incredible tour. What a beautiful family experience as well. I learned so much about the local foods and how they are prepared. The clay pots, curries, spices, and vegetables are a wonderful show for the senses with flavors that explode on the palette. Learning how to prepare these foods with traditional practices in preparing the ingredients made for an exceptional class and experience. The endless smiles and joy were shared through the entire class. I would not miss this!

Great Cooking experience. After having two weeks in Sri Lanka, we thought we tried a few curries, but nothing matched the food that we made here. We were told restaurant curries were good but to make curries from raw ingredients really makes the difference. We learnt a lot about the spice and vegetable combinations that created delicious flavours. In the process, we also got a glimpse into the life of a Sri Lankan woman in the home.

Amazinf cooking class, and really nice to be in. Sri Lankan family home to get the full experience. Cooked so many different curries, and got recipes sent by email so we can make at home! Highly recommend when in Negombo, they collected us from hotel too all very easy.
