Such a colourful and interesting insight into the ingredients used in Sri Lankan cooking - fruits, vegetables, dried fish, herbs, spices, rice, basketware plus so much more. Fantastic photographic opportunities. Most stall holders are happy to be part of your photo's but do make sure you ask them first. It is advisable to go early before it gets too hot.

The area is basically empty. This is due to the covid pandemic. Only basics required by the locals available.

Nice to see local market life. Nothing to buy really. Tried to buy some spices but had to pay 4 times more than locals, so not really recommendable..but fun to walk through

Every Monday there is a kind of flea market where locals trade great variety of local vegetables, fruits, spices, dishes and all kind of home/kitchen related goods. People are friendly and not surprised seeing tourists just passing by and taking pictures.

One of the struggles every visitor or tourist faces is - local transport. The hotel cars are phenomenally expensive and the tuk tuk has their own whims and fancies in asking for a cost.

I had a chance to meet a warm and friendly localite - who runs his own tuk tuk, has his known cab agency, and has a family restaurant @Bamboo Gardens in Bentota.

So that other visitors can connect with him for local sightseeing, shopping and airport transfers - I am sharing his details here - Vasanth +94 (77) 703 0201.

He is very safe and kind - and you can be rest assured that he wont cheat you at all. Also because of his local connect - he will take you to wholesale rate shops for local handicrafts and gems.

A must connect with Vasanth +94 (77) 703 0201 if you want your stay to be even better at Bentota

This is not a shopping market but is a place where locals buy their fruit, veg and fish ect from. There was some unsecure planks we had to walk over in order to move around which you could’ve been hurt on and the smell was not great. I would not recommend making this a must see location. However on the plus side there was some shops near by where we brought some clothes and was better place to shop. Hope this helps anyone!

Was taken here by our Tuktuk driver and were really impressed by the wide range of souvenirs at excellent prices. Were able to look around without being hassled by the staff although they were always on hand to help when we needed it.

Came to see the fish as we were told it was a great place early in the morning. What a let down, when you get up early you expect something special this is not that place.

If your in the area five minutes here is enough, we had seen much better displays in other markets around Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

Don’t make a special effort to come here.
