I went for a U.S. memorial day event, but came away impressed. A beautiful park in the middle of Busan with memorials to all the fallen heroes of the UN Command from the Korean war. Well worth a one hour stop.

This cemetery is sacred ground for hundreds of men who lie here after having given their lives in support of the South during the Korean War. The Canadian Memorial is especially moving, as is the hall of photographs (some show elderly war veterans who visited the cemetery and posed by their own wartime photos in the 1950s). There are morning and afternoon flag-raising ceremonies (10am and 5pm) by UN guards here. It's well worth a visit if you have any appreciation of history, patriotism and sacrifice.

The UN Memorial Cemetery is a beautiful tribute to those who served and those who ultimately sacrificed their lives in the Korean War. The flags for each of the 22 nations who fought in the war, fly in the wind as reminders of the combined effort to bring an end to the Korean War. We happened to be there at the end of the day when the flag was taken down and folded during a somber ceremony that is repeated daily. I was very proud to see the precise movements of the Color Guard, yet also very moved to see the somber expressions on their faces as they held the flag in their gloved hands. Every movement showed respect. This is something I will always remember.
If you come to the Cemetery, be sure and look for the Daunt Waterway. This is a waterway named after the youngest soldier who fell at the age of 17. You are also able to enter the Chapel (near the entrance) and watch a documentary on the war. The gentleman inside will ask in which language you wish to hear the movie.
I highly recommend a visit to the UN Memorial Cemetery to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who fought in the Korean War.

This is a must visit stop if you want to learn more about the Korean history of the war they went through.. and to some extent is still going on..at moment...
Contrary to some other feedback.. its rich in history about the war and also especially if you country played a role in war...
make sure you drop in to the chapel .. and stay of the english video clip they show (just in case you walk in and when they show in korean... i believe they rotate )
I was fortunate to see the UN flag lowered.. make sure you time your visit well if you want to see it...
I came by public transport... took a while to get to as nearest subway.. there was a bit of walking.. i suggest it maybe more easier to come from busan station than what i did
as i went from Daeyeon Station (Busan Subway Line 2), Exit 3 or 5. when you exit there isnt much signage but you are on the right side of the road do not cross the otherside of the street, It is a 15min walk from the station. or altenate
From Busan Station (Busan Subway Line 1), Exit 10.
Take Bus 134 and get off at the UN Memorial Cemetery and Peace Park

Visiting famous cemeteries is always on my list to do on my travels. I've visited many of them (civil and military) on all continents, so this in Busan was no exception.
The cemetery is located almost in downtown, very easy to reach by public transport.
The idea of establishing the cemetery was born even during the Korean war.
Being one of the bloodiest conflicts with so many casualties, there were many cemeteries all over Korea, so UN proposed forming the central memorial cemetery. Have in mind this is the only UN cemetery in world.
Busan was chosen as it hasn't ever been occupied, even during the strong invasion of joint North/Chinese/Russian forces, when they conquered almost the entire peninsula and the city served even as a capital for a short period.
The cemetery strongly reminds on such in US. Personally, having in mind the number of casualties I expected to be bigger, but you can cover it in 30-45 min.
As you enter the main gate to the right is a Memorial Hall where you can watch a short movie about the war.
After that you enter the Symbolic area where are 22 parts of land with flags of countries who supported SK and UN. The central UN flag rises at 10 AM and lowers at 4 PM. Below is the main grave area with fallen soldiers.
Further down is the Wall of Remembrance with engraved names of fallen soldiers and eternal flame, and at the end the UN monument.

We all found this cemetery very worthwhile to visit, as it reminds visitors of the Korean War and contribution of the UN Allied forces. So many, or 41,000 men, typically 20 years young, lost their lives.
The grounds are impeccably kept.

Impressive memorial. Worth the D-tour. But the park is also very beautiful and tranquil. Do not miss the memorial for the unknown soldier.

The UN memorial cemetery in Busan south Korea is a unique place founded to pay respect and admiration for the UN soldiers from different countries who lost their lives in helping south Korea in the civil war in the year 1950 for 3 years. In the cemetery 2300 soldiers are resting in peace.. It is so crucial to visit this place, pay respect and pray for the souls of those brave soldiers. The Busan national museum and culture centre are located nearby that you can visit the three locations in the same place

Serene cemetary, very well maintained. The old guys at the exposition rooms are great. One VERY sad and annoying aspect - in a movie about the Korean war both the Russian AND the Americans were labelled occupying forces. Damned, the Americans lost 50.000+ soldiers to liberate the South from its Northern "brothers". This should he changed!!

Can you tell me working hours of UN Park? Which days and hours is it open?

We walked for a little longer than 1 hour. 30 mins is too short, I think.

What's the closest subway station from UN Memorial Cemetery?
Written 11 August 2015
looked like bus might be a better option. but if you don't have much time taxi would be good. we got a taxi from Jagalchi market. cost us less than $10 one way. ($7~8?)
