During World War II 563 Destroyer Escorts battled Nazi U-Boats on the North...

During World War II 563 Destroyer Escorts battled Nazi U-Boats on the North Atlantic protecting convoys of men and supplies. In the Pacific, they stood first in line to defend naval task forces from Kamikaze attacks. Today only one remains afloat in America. Step back in time. Return to 1945 aboard USS SLATER. See how Sailors worked, hear the sounds of a living ship, touch a piece of American history, and walk the decks where hundreds of Sailors have walked before.

Excellent. Our guide, Andrew, did a great job. We saw everything from the captain's quarters to the depth-charge station.

Great tour of USS Slater. Took my Dad here for Father's day. My Dad retired from the Navy so he enjoyed the day so much. I loved the gallery the best, sleeping quarters interesting to see. Great tour, informative, great photo opportunities on a historical ship. USS Slater is a Cannon-class destroyer escort that served in the United States Navy.... More

The supporters of the USS Slater Destroyer Escort are enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides, able to share every feature of this WWII ship (the last floating one of its kind) with families and groups.

The Slater is near the foot of Madison, just on the way to 787 North (just North of the U-Haul and Storage if that helps you). This is a floating museum, only open on Wednesdays as I recall. Kids love it.

Cool old ship to explore. I've visited a few times and it's well maintained. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Took a tour of the Slater with my kids. Very informative and makes a person reflective of the personal sacrifice that happen to the men who served in the wars. The guides are former vets which makes it even more authentic!
