    Highly recommended excursion from Praslin
We visited as part of the three Island boat excursion with Saggitarius. Highly recommended trip from Praslin. Especially enjoyed interacting with the many giant tortoises. The one mile walk through the mangrove swamp was also really nice, as was the BBQ lunch that was provided here. Nice beach for relaxation and a swim where you rejoin the boat.

Great day trip for the family
We thoroughly enjoyed the day trip to Curieuse Island. We went with Kreol Adventures as we had booked our rental car with Kreol Cars and were very pleased with their efficient service upon arrival at Praslin. The trip was excellent from start to finish. We met the guides and boat on Anse Volbert at the location we had been given. The sign in went smoothly and soon we were off on the boat to Curieuse. Upon arrival our fairly large group was divided in two; one for French speakers and the other for English. Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Seeing the tortoises roaming freezing on Curieuse was wonderful after seeing them in a handful of places on Syechelles where they are penned up in enclosures. The hike to the other beach, where the former leper colony is located was very nice and interesting. It was also just long enough for our 4-year old daughter! We had chosen the barbecue option and were now quite hungry. The food was great and there was enough for seconds so that everyone left with a full stomach. Fresh fish and chicken along with lentils and other side dishes are enough for anyone, including vegetarians. I had considered the non-food choice of tour but we were all happy to have such a meal after the hike! We then had about an hour to relax on the very nice beach before heading near tiny St. Pierre Island for snorkeling off the boat(which was great!) before returning to the starting point. I highly recommend this journey, and going with Kreol, as it makes for a very nice day trip, leaves you time to then enjoy Anse Volbert afterward and gives you a nice side of Seychelles to explore. It is also great for young children as out little girl can attest!

Curieuse Island must be reached by boat, and the experience of walking the island where very old and large tortoises roam freely is amazing. It was very nice to be able to see the work being done to protect the young turtles and ensure they have a fighting chance at life.

The island is another example of the focus the Seychelles have on preserving their natural flora and fauna.

Curieuse Island is about 20 minutes by boat from Praslin. There are many big turtles roaming freely on the island. There is an hour easy trails from the beach we alighted to another part of island where we departed. There are some stunning rock formations along the beach. Be careful of sandflies!

Really a fantastic island with just turtles living there. It is very nice to see how they are treating the animals here.
We were on a tour, where they left us on one side, and they went around the island to prepare some bbq, and then we had to walk for an hour through the mangrove. That was a very nice experience. I would recommend people finding a guided tour, where you can see the entire island like that.

If one would have only a half day to spend in the Seychelles the ideal place to go to were Curieuse island, not far from Praslin: coco de mer palms, giant tortoises, sandy beaches, beautiful granite rock formations, mangroves - it is all here. The excursion boats will take one to Baie Laraie with the ranger station and a colony of giant tortoises, although with luck one might also encounter one roaming freely in the forest.

There are several rehabilitation programs going on at Curieuse, so access is only from 9am to 5pm and several areas are off limits. Since swimming at Baie Laraie beach is not ideal due to quite a bit of seaweed, tourists will walk the 1.7km to the attractive Anse St.José beach, where the boats will pick them up again. Here swimming is good and there is also a restaurant.

On the path between Baie Laraie and Anse St.José there is the Seychelles' longest boardwalk through a mangrove forest, where one will see the indigenous Red Mangrove, thousands of sea snails, maybe a Mangrove Crab or a Seychelles Skink or some other creature. If enough time is given one has the opportunity to branch off to the Anse Badamier Nature Trail. Everywhere there information boards.

We visited the Aldabra Tortoise sanctuary on the island. Not very crowded at all and a great experience to walk amongst the gentle giants. You can go right up to them and pet them. I wish the place remains as clean and un-commercialized it is today and one can just spend time watching these ancient creatures amble about and spend their day.

Added bonus : We found a bilimbi tree and got a tasty treat before we got off the island
