We're fortunate to have an accommodation here surrounded by breathtaking vistas and overlooking the Sea of Galilee. We had a night stroll along the lake trying to find a nice restaurant and there were many Jewish men around in their traditional Hasidic garb. This is because Tiberias is one of the 4 cities considered as most holy in Judaism along with Jerusalem.

The old city and its walls are made of black volcanic stone called bazelit in Hebrew. The modern city grows our of the older part spanning up the mountain to the west. Many ancient burial places that are significant to Jews, the Rambam and Rabbi Meir Baal haNes.

Between the sea and the antiquities there are tombs of the righteous and landmarks for the most part. A very beautiful city, but also very hot. In the summer it is difficult to walk around it. Around the city there are many natural places and sites with water, springs and streams. Recommended place for a trip.

Tiberias must be a great place 25 years ago. I've visited Tiberias 2022 in December days, the city looked like extinct. Hotel ruins, shop's closed, Restaurant's ranked. The promenade lined up with waste and garbage, you can't believe. The only busy place is the harbour in city center, arranged with carousels, junk stores and colourful funfair light's. I've your travelling to Golan heights or Hermon maybe staying a night, but maybe Tabgha or other quiet places up north will be the better option for your journey.

To be honest, it’s cute for a day. Otherwise avoid it. Kindness from locals is far and minuscule. It’s almost as if they go out of their way to be rude. Everything is up hill, so not handicap friendly. Overpriced for food. You will end up always paying $30 per person for underwhelming food. I wouldn’t come back or recommend it to anyone.

Abandoned hotels and historical buildings, unfinished construction, lot of trash, no free parking. Apparently the city's budget is not spent on development of the old town. Not easy at all to find a clean beach at the city.

What a shame. This appears to be once a thriving tourist resort on the banks of the Sea of Galilee. It certainly has all the facilities with great views of the ‘Sea’ but as we walked around for an hour it looked like multi cultural tourism was a thing of the past with many businesses closed or struggling to survive.
Our tour guide walked us round for an hour to understand the city. That was enough - give it a miss.

Tiberias is located on the Western shore of the Sea of Gallilee; it is one of Israel's popular resort cities. Tiberias is well-known for its beneficial hot springs. It has a fashionable promenade along the shore of the Sea of Gallilee. Tiberias also ha religious significance: it is one of four holy cities in Judaism. Tiberias also attracts Christian pilgrims.

We stayed there as a base for 3 days and thats about it. If you are expecting something out of the Bible you will be severely disappointed. Concrete structures, closed shops and little going on. Difficult to walk around as the roads are busy. The area around the lido seems to be the most attractive but even this was deserted. Still it is on the lake with good views to the Golan Heights. Close to many religious sites so you are likely to be out of the town all day.

Unusual al fresco restaurant experience. Simple one course menu - protein and carbs - no starters or desserts. But seriously generous portions for *very* large numbers, and excellent pre-dinner speaker.
