Mataram Mall is the old mall of Lombok. Its located on Jl Pejanggik, the main street through the central business district. This mall caters mainly to locals. There is a McDonalds there and a new cinema complex with excellent pricing.

This shopping mall is in the central of Mataram town, includes McDonalds, KFC, a few local restaurants, HE shop, boutiques and a super market. The super market, called "HERO" is for foreigner residents in Lombok and tourists. It sells imported groceries and local fresh vegetables, meat, fish, drinks, snacks, cosmetics, consumer goods and some souvenirs.

These shops are nothing to look at but if you need a chemist or something important then this is the place to go in Mataram. We did buy a few broaches from a shop here and only paid 10,000Rup to 37.500Rup each. This is about $1Aus to $3.75Aus.
We have purchased the same stuff in Bali but at 150.000Rup to 200.000Rup before.
Then there is McDonalds and other food shops too.

I found the small markets close to the Mataram Mall more interesting. The local people in Lombok are friendly and pleased to see tourists and make a few sales. Lombok is MUCH quieter than Kuta/Bali and therefore more relaxed. There are some nice eateries in Mataram Mall with enticing ice cold local juices.. Local fish/seafood dishes are excellent quality and generally priced Rp3000-5000 ($A3-5). Take some time to explore !

Just arrived in Mataram and need to stock up on supermarket items, especially water, go to Hero. Left your adaptor at the last place, go to Kings. Need a new dictionary - go to Booklovers (?) upstairs. Feel like really good, authentic Lombok food - go to Begibung - delicious. Need an Indonesian sim card, go to Royal stall. Camera charger baru rusk - you'll find it all here. +++ Another, less well known fact, coffee shop on 3rd level at the back has the best coffee in town - plus the friendly service you'd expect. Some, but not enough, people just go to sit and have a second, and . .. .

Mall is large by the island's standard. 80s looking deco with little emphasis on lightings and marketing.
Don't be fooled by its not fantastic appearance, the anchor tenant has a good selection of fashion and shoes.

Pretty Poor by Western Standards, many Toy Stores and children clothing shops. Electronics are overpriced, you need to speak a little Bahasa to get even price. Don't bother clothing shopping for a westerner if you are male with waist over 30" or a female over USA size 6

We search for food, but doesn't found any great.finally we ate at Ikan Bakar Cianjur and it was not good as at Java or Bali. The Mall is so crowded with locals, nothing special. Not recommended at all

Could someone please tell me if Hero supermarket in Mataram Mall opens on a Sunday and if so the opening hours.
We are flying in from Bali and need to shop for provisions before taking taxi down to south Lombok on Sunday afternoon.

Hello. I would like to buy a backpack in mararam. Will this be possible? Are there shops specialist in this there?
Thank you!!

Hi Roosje,
This mall is very local oriented so a specialized shop is something you will not find there. They might have backpacks although I can't remember seeing them. (But I wasn't looking for it either)

How far is Mataram Mall from the Cruise Terminal. How much should a taxi cost approximately?

If they use argo (meter) it'll be around 50K from Senggigi, 70-80K from teluk nara and around 100K from bangsal. if you're coming from Bangsal, ask the taxy to take you from Pusuk instead of getting around the island ( bangsal - Teluk Kode - Teluk Nara - Nipah - Malimbo - mangsit - Kerandangan - senggigi - Mataram). that'll cost you more but you will be able to see stunning beaches mentioned above all the way to Mataram.
From Pusuk, it is closer and you can watch Monkeys in Pusuk and beautiful forest. Be informed, If you make a stop, taxi meter will keep running. :-) You decide.
