What a beautiful island, but unfortunately full with garbage. Another proof human beings should stop using plastic. I came for snorkeling, but i refuse to swim in this garbage. Ridiculous

Visited while doing a sailing trip around the islands. Amazed by how great the snorkeling was here. Not too many people, very healthy coral and heaps of fish. Only just off the beach and in very shallow water.

Don't do the three most popular gili's. Jump on a boat and explore the lesser known ones like Gili Layar. You will have the ocean to yourself, the turtles are wild (not handfed) so when you finally see one, it feels absolutely magic. There is rubbish on the shores, yes, but nowhere near to the extent of the other islands. This is an almost untouched paradise but I urge you to go now- before it becomes flooded with tourists and becomes destroyed.

We were there to stay a few days. But we saw the rooms and the bar and nothing has invited us to stay there. The rooms very expansive, some of the without bathroom!! And wholes where the Moskitos like to go through. The bar and service was not too friendly and all around full of garbage. We couldn’t stand and went to gili gede!! No place for s tourist!

Really wonderful place if you like snorkeling (be aware of jelly fish - not dangerous but hurting). The incredible reef lays directly in front of the beach - so easy... There is not much else to do. The other side of the island is unfortunately full of garbage. There is only one accomodation with a few low-budget bungalows (shared bathroom), which are satisfying. Two higher class bungalows, probably reservation necessary. Food is good.

We took a boat here from palmyra indah bungalows for snorkelling. It is a beautiful island with very few visitors and has beautiful clear water perfect for snorkelling. It really is a 'secret gili'.

it was a beautiful time snorkelling at Gili layer! unfortunately, I had to share the experience with ridiculous tourists who were actually grabbing the sea turtle that we were all looking at to get pictures - as well as trampling over the coral with their fins. I honestly couldn't believe it, it made me so mad. Snorkeling companies or guides should give a briefing on how to act on coral reefs. respect the sea life!

We came here as part of a trip to several islands snorkelling. Unfortunately this was the last day of the Indonesian holidays so this island was packed with local boats. And the coral isn't going to last long with people walking out dipping their heads in the water or using floats and then standing on the coral if is starts to get deep. There is still some nice coral further out and an attempt to grow some with cages, but at a depth people could stand on at low tide. A beautiful beach but if not managed properly it wont retain it's beauty.

Snorkeling just in front of the island is amazing. You can see plenty of fish, healthy coral and even turtles. Visibility was good. Current tends to be strong though. In the afternoon (after 4pm) due to low tide you can enter the water only from the left side of the reef and you must swim against the current. The current was too strong for me to swim. If coming on a snorkeling tour you can combine Gili Layar with Gili Ringgit and Gili Gede. Coral around Gili Ringgit has even more colors than reef near Gili Layar but less fish.

There is a restaurant on the island serving Indonesian and western food. It is quite expensive. Main dishes starting from 50k. There is no other option on the island.

The only problem is plastic floating in the water where there is no current or garbage brought from mainland just laying on the beach. Please be environmental friendly and take your trash with you!
