The day we visited the rains started to pour but the guides advised us that we would be safe and they will look after us. We started our trek and the rain stopped and never started again which made for a pleasant walk over logs rocks but well worth it. When we got to one section when going to the second waterfall there was one section where we had to cross some water which our guide said was unsafe and some others were stuck on the other side. Although we had to wait for the water to go down about an hour for us and about 2 hours for the people on the other side, but this is nature and the guides were not going to allow anyone to be in unnecessary danger.

If you are headed to Tetebatu, you are probably going there to do some trekking through the rice fields. The standard trek is about 5-6 hours (round trip) through the rice paddies and up to the waterfall that is just inside Gunung Rinjani National Park. It is a gorgeous walk and a gorgeous waterfall; very highly recommended (FYI -- you can definitely swim in the waterfall but it is *really* cold!). The trek is tiring because its long, but not terribly taxing if you are in OK shape.
Its very worth getting a guide to take you around the rice paddies --- you will end up with a much more interesting route and probably get to see some rice planting and harvesting as well. Plus have coffee in the village, and information on various flora and fauna. Any guest house can arrange guides, but we found Pondok Tetebatu to be very helpful in this regard (even though we weren't staying there), and we had a truly fantastic guide named Awak. If he's around, hire him! He is absolutely worth his fee (around US$30). He took us on a one-hour short walk around the village showing us rice planting and harvest, and the next day took us on an amazing 6 hour trek route to the waterfall.

I recently stayed 1 night and 2 days in Tete Batu having read a couple of guide books. I was expecting somewhere more like Ubud, Bali but was pleasantly surprised to find it far more rural, very tranquil and lacking tourists which was ideal. The village is essentially a cross road on the volcanic foothills with very little going on. It's pull is the sheer beauty if the surrounding rice paddies and the peacefulness of the place.
We hired a local boy to take us walking through the rice, tobacco, mango, etc...into the monkey forest and up to the waterfall. It was a fantastic way to find out about the local culture. Orur guide s so knowledgable about all the plants and wildlife we saw which really enhanced the 4 hour walk. We came across 2 troops of grey monkeys and were lucky enough to have a close encounter with black ebony leaf monkeys which are endangered in the monkey forest.
If you are looking for fancy hotels, spotless bars and pounding music stay away in Kuta, Bali. This is a relaxing place which is suited to active people who want to get out there and see something more real.

I've been to Tetebatu just few days ago and I don't agree with L.P. guide which writes positve. The village is not interesting. The surroundings are beautiful of course, but the rice field aren't better than in Bali, Java or somewhere else in Indonesia. The monkey forest and the waterfalls entrance ticket is now too much expensive: 150000 rupies! I didn't climb the Rinjani, maybe it's the good place for that, but I don't know. Almost every local are self-styled guide, but it's not true. I had a boy as a "guide" who send me around the north side of the village for 2 hours (100000 rupies), through the rice fields, without explain me anything of interesting. Everybody try to sell you some tour, always the same, but with different prices, from 50000 to 150000. There is a man at the corner restaurant, Mr. Dani if I'm not wrong, called by the locals Mr. Bla Bla, who speaks a lot and seems to be more professional than the others, but he try only to sell you some tour, like the others! He sold me a ticket, through his "friend" in Masbagik, to Sape (Sumbawa) for 350000 rupies, but I'm quite sure that is overpriced and he got a good commission for that business from his "friend". So don't trust too much, neither him, nor the others. In Masbagik there are travel agencies where is possible find travel solutions, and don't pay more than 30000 rupies for an ojek Tetebatu Masbagik, round trip (Mr. bla bla charge 50000). Better if you call Mr. Vram 082236534942, young friendly and honest guy who can help you for everything.

Don't go there if you're Noor willing to pay crazy 150.000 IDR to see a waterfall...
My guide book said that it was only 20.000 so I didn't know. When I finally got there (difficult to find! Not a lot of signs and maps.me doesn't know the streets either) and heard it was 150k I decided not to support this. This is a ridiculous price! Then there was a guy/"local guide" who said there would be another waterfall for 20.000 and I should follow him (by scooter). The road went through the rice paddies. Nothing you should do as a not so experienced driver. I was about to turn around but then we got there. I paid 20.000 to some guys who probably just decided by themselves to ask for entrance fee in this public area. Then they wanted 40.000 as a donation which I didn't pay. The waterfall was really small and absolutely not worth the difficult drive. Then they also wanted 10.000 for parking my scooter just next to a village house. Not like there was a guard or something... On the way back there was a very muddy curve and I fell with the scooter and hurt myself... and then of course after all that he still wanted money for guiding me which was never mentioned at the beginning. I was really angry by now, didn't pay anything else and left the place without really having seen anything.
If you're on to pay 150k for the main waterfall... Ok. But I would really not recommend anyone to support this.

Tetebatu was a great stop on our way around Lombok in a rented car. We got there by accident and didn't really know where we were going. The lush rice fields seduced us and when we got all the way up avoiding hasslers on the way, we found a little nice village. Emily felt sick and we had to stay due to her stomach upset. The people in the village immediately came up with help offering herbal infusion that worked well in combination with our pills.
While she was resting we saw the rice fields. Next morning we all went to a gorgeous small waterfall (not a single person there!), and then visited a weaving village and bamboo craftsmen.
We were the first guests ever to sleep at a new Tetebatu Garden Resort, a couple of bamboo huts set on the edge of a sleepy valey. It's run by a wonderful family of caring good people.
Our guide through the village for these two days was Edi, who never hassled us or demanded money; we paid what we felt was right and he was happy with it - now I see it was less than many people pay for a 2 hours walk.
This was the first time during our trip to Bali&Lombok that we felt close to the real people and their lives. Absolutely positive experience.

When in Lombok one should visit Tete Batu for it's great panoramas of nature and ricefields (sawas). We started our guided tour from our hotel The Wisma Soedjono bungalows. Our guide Juzi Azhiana is working here. We had a great tour. Ricefields, waterfalls, monkey forrest, village and more. We can definitely recommend Juice as a guide. He is really takes his time to show you around. Also his many friends and familty members along the way make this tour special. You can reach Juzi at Wisma Soedjono bungalows or at the Tete Batu Garden Hotel which is close to his house.

Tetebatu is absolutely gorgeous. Surrounded by paddies, plantations and jungle, with the Rinjani towering above it all. The village itself is very low-key, barely any tourism. There's enough mosques though to keep you up at night.
We stayed at Hakiki Inn, situated smack in the middle of a ricefield. One of the staff gave us a 20km tour through the plantations and Rinjani National Park. Simply amazing! Definitely worth the stay if you're going to Tetebatu!

Stayed at the Green Orry . Sep and Abul and other members of the staff were great, lovely people. Food was good there too.Toured around the area , weaving pottery and a nice waterfall up in the Tetebatu park. Not a lot of tourists in March so it was nice and quiet. Great scenery all around .We were actually there three years ago , but in Lombok again in March 2015 and didn't seem like a lot has changed.

I always feel upset when I hear tourists complaining about entrance fees like Jukerina has. Its the same cost as a meal out, or two drinks, and the money supports local community, sometimes even if that is just one local, feeding their family. This may be what they earn in 4 days or even a week.
