An amazing architectural feast by any standard. Of course, this is not the original palace, but to get an understanding of the intricate design and planning of this structure gives you an insight into the creativity of the Minangkabau people. A place not to be missed.

We visited the palace in October 22, it was such a beautiful place. The architecture and views were amazing and the stories of all the wars were very interesting. Definitely make this a stop on your trip.

Visited this rebuild palace, I was so amazed by its colourful decoration which not just colour to make it beautiful but also full of meaning. Burned for the first time and was rebuild and again burned bcoz of thunder. This palace that you visit nowadays is the second rebuild. Having less treasures that we can see, not make it unworthy to visit. You can meet the palace guide that can explain very detail. Very interesting history of the Sumatera Royal Family life. Here you can also rent a traditional custom to wear and take pictures with it..

We visited Pagaruyung palace in August 2019. This palace is the most famous attraction in MinangKabau area.
The palace is very beautiful and well preserved. It has typical architecture of Minangkabau style with peaked roofs and walls that are remarkably carved and richly decorated.
Then, we visited other typical villages with very beautiful and colourful in the surroundings, i.e. Sulit Air, Pariangan and Rao Rao. Highly recommended to visit!!!

Even this building actually was rebuilt after a big fire of big storm, it’s still has its greatness of the past. Rebuilt with very kindnesses of Minangese . The palace itself is very colorful, nice to take a picture infront of it or inside it. Nice and recommended place to visit when you are in West Sumatra .

We visited this place but not much info on history that you can get here. The buliding is a 3 storey building , There are ladies wearing mascots and requested monies after taking photo with them. Can try the traditional Minang Costume here at Rupiah 30K per person

For people who visit Padang & Bukittinggi, this Palace is a "must" stop location. It has been an icon for tourism here. It is indeed Majestic looking and i love the wood work of the Palace. Beautifully carved pillars and woven walls makes the history of this Palace more alive. Unfortunately not enough information provided in the Palace for an example, statues adorning beautiful traditional wears (but worn out) were put in one corner with no information plat or what so ever. The Palace also are not well lit. It was dark and gloomy and not much to do besides trying the traditional wears and taking picture in it (chargeable). Wish more information narative plat will be provided in the future for visitors to understand this Palace's history more.

This Minangkabau palace is a replica of the original palace. The original palace is called istano silindung bulan. Lotsa photos to be taken here if you’re into architecture.
