The road that took us to the Takapala waterfall was certainly not the most comfortable, with at least 2.5 hours journey from Makassar City with a car. (The driver quoted us Rp 900,000 for a round trip for Takapala and Malino Tea Plantation. Probably negotiable with other Drivers, but we got a nice big comfortable car to fit 4 adults.)
However, once we got there, we were so amazed at how huge the waterfall was. 109 meters and the biggest waterfall in Makassar. It was raining when we got there, so the locals were renting umbrellas to tourists for Rp 5000-10,000 (sgd $0.50-$1) which was quite a convenient solution since we didn’t carry umbrellas with us.
There are local vendors selling snacks, water and their local fried bananas / breadfruit. I sampled two slices of crispy fried breadfruit (or sukun) for Rp 4000. Mineral water goes for Rp 5000 ($0.50) for a 500ml bottle.
Definitely a must-go when you’re in Makassar, preferably when it’s not raining.

I think this is by far the highest waterfall in Makassar. I was brought by our guide to this place and we did jump into the water to refresh ourself.

The road and walkways to this waterfall can be difficult to negotiate but the waterfall is very nice. There are plenty of small stalls offering food and snacks at reasonable prices.
Some people do brave the water and get into the pools below the waterfall but it was quite cold for all of my visits.
