This Chinese Buddhist-Confucist temple is well-worth visiting. It is full of local colour. Most interesting for me is the puppet show. These 19th century puppets are a Hakka tradition which is dying out. The temple is very friendly. Don't forget to go upstairs to see...More

It took taxi, helpful locals and a becak to find this place but very worthwhile. Peaceful and atmospheric. Temple is on both sides of a small alleyway with upstairs level. I'd put it as a number one must see in Surabaya.

It's not easy to get to, as it is halfway down a narrow street somewhere in Chinatown, but definitely worth getting to if you can. There's nothing flashy about this place - it certainly hasn't been cleaned up for the tourists, and the local residents...More
