The church dates to 1753, octagonal shaped with a tower either side of the entrance and a large copper clad dome behind. The three porticos are regarded as Roman style. The interior is quite striking with light streaming through the stained-glass windows; Pews, paneling and furnishings showcase the quality of the timber workmanship and skill of the craftsmen. The baroque style organ is an outstanding feature but unfortunately not in working order.
The church was rebuilt in 1787, the towers and dome were added in 1894, various renovations during ensuing years with today's structure the result. Noted some vegetation growing from the exterior of the walls, better to remove that face bigger problems in coming years.

Though the name of this Protestant church GPIB Immanuel Semarang, it's more famous with the name "Blenduk Church" because of the dome roof. It's still use for services. Blenduk Church is one of the must visit site in Semarang.

No where else in Semarang you can see the perfect heritage building in Paladium architecture Style It's just a pity that the stainedglass not properly restored, the Pipe Orgel were stolen and the spiral iron stair is missing, but the Podium ist still well maintained

Me and my wife took holiday in Semarang during weekend. On Sunday morning we join the Sunday service at this church. It was really a good experience. The church still keep everything as original and everything was well maintained.
After service we took the interior picture and then frlm outdoor as well. This is a really beautiful church. The location is at Kota Lama, a heritage area in Semarang.

The Blenduk Church was one of so many building which was builded in the era of Dutch Government in Semarang. It has a unique architect with round beautiful roof, maybe thats why it was called Blenduk means something round and puff (I am sorry if wrong). This church still opens for sunday services under GPIB (Protestan) Denomination and its name now is Immanuel Church, although people still call this church : Gereja Blenduk. Outer appearance is so beautiful in white while the round roof is red brick. Inside also so beautiful in the retro desain including the big orgel upstair.

The sad news is that this historical church really need a renovation soon because of brittleness. The church management already submit a proposal fund to regional government because this building is counted as a historical building and should be maintenance by government.

The word 'Blenduk' means 'Dome'. It is Javanese word but the original name is Immanuel Church and was built by the Dutch people in the mid of 18th Century.

This building is very iconic and you may go inside . I love the architecture here.

I give this attraction only 3 stars because it’s not really a tourist attraction, but a functioning church. As such, there’s not much for a tourist to see. The gentleman inside let my wife and I look around, and I took a few pictures. It is a Protestant church, apparently from the Dutch Reformed tradition. It has a magnificent pipe organ, which I hope to hear some day. I have heard that it is the oldest Christian church in Indonesia.
It stands out more as a piece of architecture than a place of worship, and I’m guessing that 90% of the people who visit do so only to take pictures outside. It is the highlight of the old-Dutch section of the city.
