About
Punthuk Setumbu Hill is one of the best spots to watch the sunrise with the background of Mount Merapi Merbabu. From this place tourists can also see the magnificent Borobudur Temple in the morning which is confined by a sea of fog. The exoticism of the sunrise that rises in the morning is always a fascinating magnet for tourists.

Disappointed after such a long hard climb to the top of the hill and waking up extra early. It was cloudy and we could hardly see the sun. However can see from the pictures posted that it can be beautiful when it is a clear day.

We went to Punthuk Setumbu as part of a trip to visit Borobudur and Prambanan. You arrive when it's still dark, and gradually, the sun rises, offering a spectacular view. If you're lucky, you can see the volcanoes in the area and the Borobudur temple.

It's set up for you to wait there and take photos, making the most of the views. Highly recommended.

It was really nice and well-organized. It was a bit too cloudy for us, but the view was still really nice! definitely recommend it. The tour guide answered very quickly all the time and was really helpful. The walk up to the hill was also very easy and short, only 10 min!

Great sunrise, easy track, easy to find warung to eat after catching up the sunrise. We can see Borobudur Temple and Mt. Merapi from here. Unfortunately there are no activities you can do after 8 am as the sun raising up.

MUST TO DO while in Borobudur, the best is during sunrise. It’s worth it to wake up early morning just a little climb up.
The steps already has good pavement so very easy for beginner and some elderly.
Once u get on the top be Zen..... enjoy the moment, be aware everything around you....

Enjoy

This place offers a magnificent view onto the rain forest with a egg yolk alike sunset. The view was just so incredible that you will hope for the time to stop and indulge yourself into the view with your loved ones. The view down into the rain forest was also so perfect that it just brought me away from the busy life in town. Come enjoy the view even if you are non-photogenic

The Setumbu hill is close to Borobudur temple (perhaps 15min drive). The entrance for foreigners is (as of Nov 2019) 50k IDR which I think is overprices for what it is. To get to the to the top is about 15min walk (paved walkway between the forest; not too steep) from the parking. There are many small shops along the way to the top. Once on the top you have many sitting areas, arrangements for taking pictures,... We went to the hill after visiting the Borobudur temple (perhaps it was 2 or 3pm). There were not that many people around in that time - less than 10.
The views were really nothing spectacular. Despite clear sky and great visibility we did not see Borobudur temple from the hill. The chicken temple was clearly visible as it is relatively close by. We were done in like 20min with all the picture taking. The views (at least during the daytime) were underwhelming. Similar views (with cheaper entrance) can be experiences also from the Chicken temple and both places in my opinion can be skipped.
