It’s a typical run down old attraction here in Indonesia. Probably nobody cares about it as it’s non secular.
Needs some interpretation boards. It’s actually from the 16th century.
We enjoyed a bit of fun trying to find our way around. Given the price a cheap diversion!

Sunyaragi is not a real cave but a grotto or rockery made of coral rag, designed by a Chinese architect for the Sultan of Cirebon. It is more like the kind of Chinese pleasure garden you might associate with a rich family or formal garden from the cities of Eastern China. It has not been well maintained over the centuries, so the gardens, pools and wooden pavilions have largely vanished, leaving just some odd and whimsical rock formations. This makes a nice addition to the royal palaces in town. If you keep your expectations modest, this makes for an unusual and interesting excursion.

Sunyaragi cave is in fact a "Taman Sari" (water palace) built by a sultan for his harem. The water is gone but the many secret corners, small alleys and bridges make it easy to imagine the sultan's concubines having a good time in this very warm city. Recommended visit but here also whites must be prepared to serve as photo object. Always friendly asked.

I was not expecting much coming to this place but it made me very interested and impressed me.
Cirebon has not very much to offer, however this complex of caves is among the best places in Cirebon.

We visited the Sunyaragi Cave as a thing to do during our Cirebon trip. This was not a real cave but stacked up and cemented coral with various passages and alcoves some lined with bricks. Its totally man made. The admission was cheap and the placed was thronged with happy groups posing for photo’s among the various chamber entranced etc. The cave was mildly interesting and that was helped by our local guide a young woman who showed us around took photos for us and gave explanations for a modest fee decided by ourselves.
Sadly the site was thick with plastic garbage including discarded cups, straws, food wrappers and plastic bags so much so that I just wanted to leave after 10 minutes. There were staff around but they seemed blind to the garbage.
Would be ok if cleaned up.

Spend about 15 minutes in the area and found really nothing special about the cave if not spooky. However, the local govt is doing some facility improvement in the area, and probably this place could get better once it is done.

How to reach the place :
1. By public transport : Starting point from Jl Siliwangi ( near train station ) : D5, stop at Jl Dr Cipto, take becak for final leg, or ask your hotel officer. Or take D6 or D2 from Grage area.
2. Becak ( Indonesian rickshaw ): The driver usually ask for 12-15 thousand from Grage to Sunyaragi, my advise: take it, its worth the price, the place is quite inaccessible, except if you rent a car, which is the best way and convenient way to explore Cirebon. My wife gave the becak 20 thousand IDR, due to the distance, and the driver took the two of us there ( means: 140 kg in total).
This place worth 60-90 minutes of visit, it is interesting because it is build from rock and has Hindu influence. The place is actually a place for the Sultan of Cirebon to meditate or to rest, so it is actually places, consisted of many caves engineered by man..
Bring your own water, use sun screen, bring cap and comfort dress due to the very hot and humid climate in Cirebon. To have an English speaking guide is better idea.
Your visit in Cirebon is legitimate once you visit : Kasepuhan Palace, Batik Trusmi, try local culinaries and Sunyaragi.
