I went to Saung Udjo early November 08, recommended by my sister who went there the previous month.

So the 5 of us went to see the Sunday afternoon show, to my delight we saw a lot more than just Angklung Orchestra, there were dances, puppet shows, a great introduction to the West Java tradition.

The open stage was very beautiful, with the centre stage fully equipped with the Gamelan (indonesian orchestra) as well as the Angklung (bamboo instruments) orchestra.

The performers are students from Saung Angklung Udjo, they are children from the age of 2-12 years old. Most of the children, live locally from the Saung Angklung Udjo. They go to Saung Udjo to study the Angklung after school, then in the week end they hold performances. They are so cute! Full of energy and enthusiasms.

The show started with the Wayang Golek (which is the traditional puppet show). It was great, because my friend wanted to see Indonesian puppet show. A traditional West Java Topeng Dance (Mask Dance) was also on the itinerary.

The music was beautiful, and the show was very well organised. Interaction from the audience is also in order.

Ok I don't want to give away to much

But we thoroughly had a fantastic time there and would recommend everyone who's visiting Bandung to see it!

Came here with my family today (Christmas Day) for the afternoon show.Extremely appalled by how the staffs treat us international guests compared to local folks. It's ok for them to cut ques and enter the hall first, but not us international guests who like them, are walk-in customers. We were sitted according to instructions on a small sign, but later made us change seats. The staffs were not apologetic at all for all these inconveniences. In fact, they were quite rude as well. They even entertained those that had cut our que at the ticket counter. What a waste really..Sundanese and Bandung people are well known for being courteous but my trip here proved otherwise.

I found that the entrance fees is quite on the high side. IDR80,000 (RM28) for an adult and IDR50,000 (RM18) for kids btw 4-12. Most of the itineraries already explained by fellow TA but IMHO the Wayang Golek is quite long and uninspiring. This is because you couldn't understand what did they sing about. The best part is when they teach you how to play the Angklung. Perhaps for Westerners, the dancing session with the kids may be the highlight of the show.

You too can Make Music
Don’t miss this wonderful fun filled show, the children are very talented and full of fun, you’ll be introduced to the Angklung an Indonesian musical instrument made from bamboo and you too will learn to play it. The audience got fully into the show dancing and playing the music with the children, a lot of fun!!

i visited SAU for twice. First visit was totally great. The audience was great, the show was amazing and the MC's spoke in many languages. My first visit was at 3.30 pm show in Sunday, while my 2nd was the 1 pm show and it was totally different from the 1st show. the show wasn't as great as my first visit. the orchestra only play 1 song while in my 1st visit they played 5 songs. i realized this is happening because the audience in my 2nd visit mostly dominated by locals while my 1st visit dominated by foreigners. if you wanna see a great show, better take the 3.30 pm show.

been here twice, but it always awe me in some way
the performance is about sundanese traditional art including wayang, celebration and of course the master piece angklung performance itself

and the end of the performance, they will lend each person an angklung so you guys can learn together how to play it..
recommended for anyone who love traditional performance..

This is a 'must-do' for any traveller to Bandung. The cultural show held everyday from 3.30 to 5.00 p.m. was really enjoyable and the little performers extremely talented. Audience is made to participate towards the end in learning to play the angklung and dance with the performers. Was so impressed that I ended up buying a mini angklung. An afternoon truly well spent!

If you're a tourist then this is a must place to visit and even If you're Indonesians, you'll see Angklung in a different light, you'll be amazed on how such a simple Angklung can make music like that

They have a daily show of Angklung performance at 15.30, but during weekends there will be several show. Entry ticket is IDR 70.000 for adult and IDR 50.0000 for children. They also have a souvenir shop and a restaurant, however, you have to cross the parking lot (short distance) to get to the restaurant, so if it's raining then you might get wet without umbrella

There is really nothing to do here except for the show so make your timing right

The most fun part is when we all play the Angklung together, the host was great and funny and made us laugh all the time

The Bohemian Rhapsody in Angklung version is something you will always remember

Brought my family to watch this show on 2 June 2012. Didn't have high expectation initially. The 2-hour show starts at 3.30 pm local time. Ticket price for foreigner is Rupiah 100,000. You will be entertained with traditional dances and angklung performances. Visitors are also tought to play angklong and invited to dance at the end of the programme. We left the place with a big smile and in my honest opinion, it worths more than 100,000 rupiah entry fee. Certainly worth to be included in your travel itinerary when you visit Paris Van Java!

Fantastic performance by the kids playing the angklung (Indonesian music instrument) and various dance and singing performances. If you are in town you cannot afford to miss this show. It's really worth the time and effort. Ticket price is 100.000 IDR. Which is too cheap for the performance in my opinion. They also have a nice souvenir shop with very reasonable prices. A taxi from the city center is about 55.000IDR. Leave the city in time because of the traffic jams. About 1 to 1,5 hours before performance. The show starts at 3.30pm and takes about 2 hours.
