We did the sunrise trek up to Mt Batur with a visit to hot springs, a lovely lunch and a visit to a tea&coffee plantation. Our guide Marley and our driver were lovely and helpful. Marley helped us up and down the mountain and prepared a lovely breakfast for us while we were enjoying the view!. Marley was also very informative throughout the day and taught us lots. The views from the lunch restaurant were stunning also!
A pleasant and professional experience with Bali Eco Tours :)

Getting started on a trip of a lifetime! We are so happy to recommend Bali Eco Cycling! The whole day tour was a revelation of THE Bali! The staff and everyone we were introduced to were so friendly and helpful in understanding each part of the day’s activities, such as stopping at rice paddies, visiting a host family compound with a tour of their farm, a coffee plantation, and an ancient banyan tree. A great breakfast buffet with a view of Mount Batur, weather permitting, and a delicious lunch at the end of the ride. Bikes and gear were provided as well as rain ponchos and refreshments. Very informative and pleasant! You are going to be amazed! A special thanks to our guide Wayan!

Our Tour was a really great experience, our guide Shandy and driver Buddy were very good at their jobs, nothing was too much trouble and if we wanted to miss something out, that was ok too. Our lunch was good and not rushed. Very enjoyable.

Chose the 3-in-1 Mt. Batur tour. Fantastic view of Mt. Batur and it's brother at sunrise at a cafe. Got some Indonesian cake for breakfast as well. Started hiking the black lava field afterwards, which gave us a feeling on being at another planet. After the hike, we biked around Mt. Batur through all the villages. Fantastic views and an all right bike tour. Stopped at the water temple for the last bit; to cross the lake in kayaks. Wonderful! Got to visit the water temple and also a coffee plantation with taste samples as well. Our guide was Gentur, he really made an awesome day for us. He could a lot about everything, and gladly shared the balanece culture with us.

This was so much fun! We were the only 2 on The trip so got a real private experience. Our guide (who I'm sorry, I forgot his name!) Was friendly and funny and answered all our questions around culture, even giving examples of his family. The bike was mostly easy with a few more challenging sections, though I'd say anyone who's been on a mountain bike before and doesn't mind picking up a bit of speed downhill could manage it. Defo a tour I'll reccomend to others. Thank you!

This tour is highly reccommended. The day is so diverse, riding through the villages, trying coffee, breakfast with an amazing view & finished with a beautiful lunch in the rice fields. You don't have to be an athlete to enjoy this day. I have done this tour a 3 times now, and I have loved each time.

Late picking us up (arrived at 3am instead of 2.30am).
Late leaving coffee point.
Late arriving at start point.
Ended up having to get up to the top with no guide, in order to make it by sunrise.
Our so-called "guide" never made it to the top. He had our paid for "breakfast".
Stateed our dietry requirements on booking - NOT CATERED FOR AT ALL.
After a two hour hike to the top, we had a couple of bananas.
We then had another three hour hike down, we were offered chicken or fish and had to explain everything all over again.

Their website, which we used to book, said as the first 5 to book we were entitled to an hours full body massage instead of the standard 20 minute foot massage. This was not honoured. The guy we had just shrugged his shoulders and said he was just the tour guide - zero responsibility taken.
The foot massage we did receive was... awful. To be honest. Worse I've had and actually re-injured my healing ankle slightly, they were that rough (I had recovered from tendonitis after a bad sprain earlier this year, having to have several physio sessions!)

This company is a bunch of jokers. Don't use them - take your money else where!

We had a great time with Bali Eco Tours! They made a special package for us that included a Mount Batur sunrise tour and a cycle tour in one day. Organizing all this was really easy and fast via email.

Mount Batur tour:
I think most people don't realize how hard it will be to climb a volcano in the dark. We are a couple in our late twenties, we are very fit but it was pretty exhausting! Many people climb up there every day on tours like this and I think many of them don't not know what they have signed up for. It is not at all impossible but I think it is "relatively easy" - as the website say - only for experienced hikers, even if you only go up to the sunrise point. It was not a problem for us since we are young but it could be for some - anyway, this is not as bad to loose a star from the review! :)
The tour started during the night, they picked us up at 2:15 in Ubud, we had an almost 2 hour car ride (with one stop at The View restaurant) and than a 2 hour hike up to the top. First, there was about an hour of pretty fast walking then another hour of hiking on the mountain, all in complete darkness with flash lights. We had some nice tour guides that helped us but the pace was pretty fast. The last 20 minutes were optional to get to the top instead of the lookout point. We were the only people to sign up for it and it was the hardest part thanks to the terrain and the inclination. Unfortunately it was very foggy, we did not have a clear view of the sunrise or the area but it was worth it - challenge completed! :) The hike down was of course easier but still, a two hour trekking after climbing a volcano.
If you are fit, a regular hiker and someone who likes a good challenge then go for it!
Don't forget to bring warm clothes as it can be really chilly on the way up, around 13-15 degrees Celsius.

Cycling tour:
After the descend we went for a breakfast at the wonderful View restaurant and joined a group for the bike tour. We really enjoyed the tour as it was really easy (after the hiking we needed that), informative and fun. The bikes were in very good condition and our guide was the best guide we had in all Bali. We visited a plantation, rice paddies and a local home, as well. I recommend it to everyone!

We stayed at the foot of the mountain and the hike starts just outside our guest house but we were still charged 60USD per pax. We were handed hand held torch light but no hiking stick. Breakfast excluded too.
During the hike , our guide was most of the time nowhere in sight. He was always way ahead of us. Our group consists of only three people and it’s always the three of us waiting for and checking on one another.
At one point of the hike, I had difficulty with the steepness, it was another hiker who lent a hand, instead of our guide ( don’t know where he was).
The hike ended also at our guest house and from there we were driven to the hot spring. There, the guide told us he has to leave early as the other guests had requested. My friend and I were given the option to leave early with them or walk back to our accommodation on our own. By now, we were really frustrated with both eco and the guide. We don’t know the way back and the guide would only point in a direction and said walk 10mins. The car ride earlier was already near 10mins.
We let him leave. We’ve had enough. Thankfully staff at the hot spring were helpful, assisted us in contacting our guest house management for transport back to our accommodation.
Sunrise at the summit was spectacular. I’d want to do it again someday. Just not with this company. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Dear FionaTFN, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We really need this kind of review to highlight any problems we might have, be it from our own operators, or to protect customers from possibly irresponsible staff members or possible illegal operators pretending to be us. Normally if we have people request our services when already staying at the base of the mountain, we offer a 5-10 US dollar discount (we are now gearing towards charging in rupiah only, to use an Indonesian internet payment system). It sounds like this guide did not give you the discount you deserve, so we would dearly love to know his name, or possibly the name of the reservation staff who did the booking for you. It would really help us get to the bottom of this, and ensure it never happens again to our future or repeat customers. It is very unfair that they treated you differently to the other customers. Please let us know when you are in Bali again, so we can offer you a discount and make sure you have our best trekking guide who will take care of you properly. In case it wasn't really our staff (we have discovered that other operators at times pretend to be us, as our product and prices are at a premium level—hence we work hard to maintain our quality standards) we apologise as a people, that you have been treated unkind by our fellow Indonesian, they gave us a bad name. You were willing to pay the full price without bargaining, yet you were shortchanged in the activity as well as inclusions such as breakfast etc. Our guide normally have great reviews as they take care of our guests very well. Normally the compulsory local guides will accompany the fast guests, and our own guides stay back with the guests who need to take their time. Occasionally the guests are a large group ranging from too fast to too slow, in which case we recommend they keep up with the fastest, or stay back with the slower ones. We normally keep the numbers down per guide to make it easier for the guides to handle the guests. The local guides require us to hire one of them for every maximum 5 guests, in which case 10 guests would have 2 local guides and 1 of our guides. This would mean there are 3-4 guests per guide. If it were less than 5 guests, there would be 2 guides, one local, one our own. This would mean 2-3 guests per guide, and they are required to stay with the guests, and the guests are required also to stay with our guides, as we provide insurance and need to ensure accountability. I have never heard of our guides leaving their guests to fend for themselves. So please if you have their name, let us know so we can make sure this never happens again. Best regards, Trishna

You need to do this. I was in Bali for two months and this was the highlight of my whole trip. They get you up ungodly early, give you yummy pancakes, trek you up to the top of a beautiful mountain for sunrise, give you snacks, take you to an amazing relax hot spring and back home. Its the best. But be aware it is a HIKE not for a beginner, asthmatic, or anyone who can't keep up.
