- Mayi BarovLos Angeles, California1,440 contributionsInteresting experienceI’m genuinely surprised by the negative reviews. My experience was quite the opposite—I encountered exceptional service with friendly servers. The coffee tasting was not only very affordable but also offered a fascinating exploration into different varieties of coffee, each proving to be both interesting and delicious. Although I didn’t make a purchase, the experience was positive.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 February 2024

My partner and I were taken to get to the coffee plantation by our local drive we’ve hired this time, which was not planned on our itinerary. However, I’m a coffee person so I gave it a go. At first, there came a salesman welcoming us and telling us so much about how the Luwak coffee beans were processed and made ,and afterwards he took us to a long table for sampling a dozen of different flavored drinks added with artificial flavors. In the meantime, the salesman told us he comes from a tiny island to Bali to get more financial supports and get hired at a better place as to get more of our trust and supports. In the end, after sampling all the served drinks and listening to his family stuff, I took some Luwak coffee beans and lemon tea at the gift shop, which was at a higher price. What’s a shame, it tasted differently as what we had tasted at the store. It’s my first time to Bali and I was ripped off as well as scammed twice. To all the tourists, please be aware of it and be alert.

An interesting experience tasting the many varieties of coffee and teas. Vey informative and in a nice location. Only criticism I would have is that I wished that the person serving us would have asked if we wanted honey and sugar in our drinks. They were far too sweet for our liking which spoilt the tasting for us. They are not pushy for sales and the only cost was for a luwak coffee that we shared. It was the best of all tasted, but too expensive in the shop.

We visited Lumbung Sari House of Coffee as a first stop early in the morning on the way to Ubud. We found the personalised service at rhis small coffee plantation to be nice. The young guy (apologies we cant remember his name) that guided us throughout was very pleasant, his english was very good, he had plenty of knowledge of the coffee process. The entry was free just you pay for the cost of the tasting and a cup of Civet Coffee if you choose to have them.
The tasting consists of a small sample of all coffees and teas made by the plantation. A ni e outlook to enjoy this, and there were not many people there. We purchased a couple of items from the store.

A very interesting place. The staff guides you around, showing plants such as coffee, cocoa, cinnamon and ginger. You can meet the local luwak animal and even pet it. Then there is a tasting of teas and local coffee. You can also order the local Kopi Luwak coffee, the most expensive coffee in the world, priced at IDR 55,000 per cup. There is also a shop on site, the prices are exorbitant, but we were looking for mangosteen tea earlier and couldn't find it at the local markets, so we had to buy it here. The cost for a package of approximately 200 grams is IDR 200,000, a small package of Kopi Luwak coffee is approximately IDR 300,000. There is also a nice place to take photos with a rice field in the background. Worth a visit. We were with a local guide, Kaddek Kaa Driver, whom we also recommend. He drives safely and does not rush despite the time limit being exceeded. The cost of the car for the day was $60.

This was a great and unexpected visit. It was part of a tour that we had booked and not being coffee drinkers we weren't sure we were going to like it. But the guide we got was amazing and it was very interesting to learn all about the plants and how they make their teas and coffee. Yes, there were some caged animals but that's only during the day as they are nocturnal animals they let them out at night. After trying all the different teas and coffee's we now know what we do and don't like, but it was a great experience. Then they try to get you to buy something from the gift shop (like any tour, of any place, in any country!) to which we scored a great tea that we can't get in Australia.

You see a few cage animals and untensils how they process the coffee. Then you sample some tea and coffee. Lastly a visit to the gift shop. I purchased some overpriced powder tea for souvenir but honestly it's not that great. Also later back at the hotel, I noticed I was charged more than the receipt. My fault for not look checking before I left. Anyway, the overall trip to Lumbung Sari House of Coffee is a waste of time.

We were taken here by our Bali holiday driver, we were not that keen but he insisted that the coffee is great. The coffees and teas we tasted were nice but we spent about $50 on small packs of red ginger tea and Luwak coffee and when we got home they tasted basically like some diluted powder with no taste. Please be aware of anything you buy, as they give you real products to taste but sell you fake stuff for inflated price. They drivers get handsomely rewarded for taking you there. This has left a bad taste of Bali for us as we don’t think people can be trusted.

I was unsure on visiting but my partner was keen so we went ahead. I was very suspicious of how they could make the coffee as the beans are cultivated from the mountains from wild cats. Sure enough we entered and a wild civet was caged at the front so everyone could gawk at it. I asked politely why they kept a wild animal caged up, the lady said he just sleeps there during the day and they let him out at night. Important to note the area with the coffee shop is not a place where wild civets live, they live in the mountains. So yeah I was quite sure this lady lied to my face... I tried to appear to enjoy the rest of the time spent there but it all feels like a scam. I guess everyone needs to make a living...

Don’t go there ! It is a scam. They abuse their animals and it’s a completely unethical industry, check on internet the reality of this industry and the animal suffering. Plus you can taste these other instant powdered coffees which are for sale and they are full of flavouring , coconut milk powder and sugar……. A very low quality product that you probably would never buy in normal circumstances. There is no ingredients listing on the packet or expiry date……. Far from inspiring an honest activity or business.
