We visited the waterfalls after reading the tripadviser recommendations. Our driver (local!) didn´t know them but once we were in Sampangan the people could tell us where to go.
At the entrance we payed 150.000 Rp/Pers. (but depends which tour you take, the waterfalls are not all in one place) for a local guide who shows you the place. We did the 1-2 hour tour with 4 of the 7 waterfalls and we had soooo much fun. You can slide down one of the waterfalls, jump from 3 to 16 meters (we only did the 3 meter jump, but our great guide Gus showed us the other ones) and of course swim in the different basins. The way is not too difficult and with a litle talent you can manage it in flip-flops (we did)
The waterfalls are beautiful and not at all crowded by tourists. we were the only people there all the time. In the end we stayed at least 3 hours in this amazing place.
The guides really take care of the place and keep it clean. There is also a little changing room. On the way Gus told us about the plants and living there and took photos from us in the waterfalls. (Gus, thank you so much for this awesome afternoon!!!)

The guide book said go to GitGit. Our guide said there is a better, more beautiful waterfall not spoilt by as many visitors. Boy was he right! You need to work for this one. 380 steep steps down (yes - that means back up too!). Wading across fast flowing rivers with slippery rocks was also interesting! But the rewards was magically.
7 separate falls in total. The second biggest is perhaps most beautiful set into a gauge with wonderful hill sides. The largest was extremely powerful when we visited after lots of rain. So much so that swimming was impossible - the sheer force of the fall pushing us back and the spray like a very heavy downpour.
The experience was once in a lifetime with wonderful views. Try to go when the sun is out. It clouded over and rained just as we got to the bottom and the view on the way back up was not as good as a result.
There are guides who show you the way and help on the steep steps and across the rocks for 50,000idr.
Only saw two other groups (one a single traveller and a group of 3). I'm sure GitGit would be more crowded (but not been so cannot compare).

The best thing I did in Bali so far. It's beautiful and exciting. A local guide is needed to get to the waterfalls. We payed 75.000 per person. There are 7 waterfalls in this area, Aling-Aling is one of the most well-known but it's the least impressive in my opinion. The other waterfalls you can jump/slide off. The hike is around 30 minutes and then you can choose to jump of 5, 12 or 16 meter! the local people will tell you where to jump. It was so scary but I'm happy I did it. Life jackets are available for those who do not want to jump without. Make sure to bring your underwater camera for amazing videos of you jumping. It's near Lovina, hotspring, other waterfalls so if you are in the neighborhood make sure to go here!! it's amazing. Wear good shoes, bring your bikini, sunblock and enough water to drink.

8 kilometers east of Singaraja from lovina, there is a village below sambangan .
Sambangan village is 200 m - 500 m above sea level. It is about 4 kilometers a way from Singaraja town . The total populations in this village is 1,215 people most whom have profession as Farmers .
As we walked through the nature trekking until we reach a place where we get down to 4 beautiful waterfalls of Sambangan . On the way you can see the different types of plants and trees that Attract (cloves, cocoa, durian, papaya, banana and many more).
Down at the foot of the waterfall you can swim in cold water to clean and refresh the body and you can do the atraction jumping and sliding in the river in area lagun . we went for a hike up the hill about 100 yards to the high level of the sea nearly 500 feet with sea views, large hills and rice fields in the fall of water at the beginning of the trips: 2.5 for Short trip, 3-4 for medium trips and almost 5 -6 hours for long trip

The best thing about these waterfalls is they arent (yet) overflowing with tourists. Our local guide, Bob, was so passionate about preserving the natural beauty of the area and was extremely entertaining for the whole trip.
Heaps of great jumping/diving spots going from a couple of metres to over 10m! There was even a part where the water had naturally carved a 5m rock slide that you could slide down, but only after it took 10min to get the balls, was I game enough to try it.

Amazing waterfalls and beautiful surroundings but heed my warning, its a serious (15 minute) walk down and then back up some very loose and very large poorly made steps without handrails, across sharp rocks, through streams and mud. This is not for the unfit, old or faint of heart.
If you're up for it and have shoes that you're happy to get wet then you won't be disappointed.

We spent a couple of hours here with a standard route throughout. You start with the slide down the waterfall with maybe a 5 or 10 meter drop, pretty fun. Then a 5 meter jump in, which was my limit. Then you could walk further down to a 10 meter jump, followed by a final 15 to 16 meter jump for the really crazy brave hearted souls. If you do not listen well and understand the importance of your form hitting the water you could be badly hurt. Exciting for sure, fun to watch, but be very careful and do not do something you are not ready for.....

The Secret Gardens of Sembangan are so worth it to go while you are travelling in the north of Bali.
I only did a short Trek of 2 1/2 hours with only 15min walk to the first waterfall and only did 3 of 7. But still is was great fun. The natural slide was awesome, the first waterfall of about 10m is a good start to be ready for the 16m jump. That was just incredible!

I'm trying to determine the feasibility of doing a tour at this waterfall with my son (will be 2.5 when we travel). He walks fine though (of course) is kind of slow going up and down steps. I don't mind carrying him for a bit if necessary and could split between myself and my husband for a break. But how long is the walk? Are there sufficient steps? Are they slippery? Are there hand rails?
Would you suggest going here with a 2 year old? If not, are there any other waterfalls that you'd suggest? Any other tips or suggestions would be appreciated as well. Thank you!
