Beautiful Balinese gate that worth to queue
The gate was about 2 hours driving from Kuta, and was actually the entrance to a golf course, with the ticket cost IDR50,000pp to take the picture. The queue was not long at the time we were there. It took us about 30 minutes or so to wait for our turn. There was a staff to call out the queuing number and he was willing to help us to take nice pictures.

    Famous because of Instagram!
The reality of this 'attraction' is that it is the entrance to a golf course. You can see these gates all over Bali, so making a special trip to take a picture with these gates is a complete waste of time! Sad over-commercialization in an Instagram world.

    Just a photo stop
This is just a few minutes drive from the Ulun Danu Beratan temple and is just a photo stop on the way. Our driver had taken us inside the Golf resort initially but brought us back and was kind enough to take photos for us here. Given the hype this has acquired, there would almost always be quite a few people around here. Wouldn't recommend this as a must visit but a few minutes here won't harm due to the proximity to Ulun Danu Beratan.

We just wanted to make a photo, only the gate, not with us, they sent us away, because we have to pay for it.. for entering a street, where is nothing else just this gate on an open road.. wtf??? And the stuff there is extremely rude, double shame. I don't mind if someone wants a picture, wants to wait, but you cannot stand on a road and make a picture? That is embarrassing and ridiculous .

the most famous split gateway (or candi bentar) is probably the gate of heavens located at pura lempuyang. it was made popular by an instagrammer who created the image using a piece of mirror for reflection effects. that gate is unique because it has mount agung as the backdrop.

pura lempuyang, however, is located very far from most places in bali, and often have lines lasting for hours just for that perfect shot. is it really worth it? only you can decide

note, however, this type of split gateway to a temple is a classic entrance at many religious compounds in bali and also java islands. so you can theoretically take your iconic instagram photo at many places, not just at pura lempuyang. one example is at the handara gate, which serves as an entry point to a golf course.

handara gate is situated about 5 min drive away from ulun danu beratan temple, and so it is a quick pit stop if this interests you. there are staff at the site who will help you and your traveling party take photo.

As a standalone sight, this place is just not worth ur time and money. This gate pales in comparison to the Gate of Heaven, and hence, visitors should temper down their expectations.

Instagram and reality are different in this case. The waiting time for the pics need to be accounted for while tourists plan their trip. There is a friendly staff who will offer to take pics with a reflector glass for a "Donation". While the effort is appreciated, tourists should first check the pics before paying him.

In short, this place is recommended only as a stop over while on tours to Sekumpul or Ulan Danu temple, else it is best avoided.

The gate is nice without any doubt. But it's simply inappropriate to request 55.000 IDR per person (!) that you will be allowed to come close to the gate and take your photos..... not to speak about the waiting time for the queue.

We have denied to pay that and have left instantly..... the made sure, that we even did not make a picture out of the distance..... unbelievable.

In the end it´s just a gate like hundreds of others in Bali and I don't see the point to pay for an "attraction" like that.

The gate seems to be the entrance of a golf resort.....

We only viewed from the entrance as our driver did not recommend that we pay a fee to Handara Golf Resort. It is the main entrance point to the golf course and resort, built in traditional Hindu style to signify the passage from the outer world to the temple, or, to the resort facilities here.

Too bad the weather did not cooperate so we drove by only. Apparently, nothing more than entrance to the golf course and they charge to take a photo.

Its an entry to a golf course so vehicles does move via the same road & you would have to wait for it to pass. Theres a parking fee & an entry fee for taking photos, a token system kind & long lines. We waited for like 30 mins & there was a real long line behind us.

There are local photographers who manages the lines & who will also take photos via your phone. One photographer was very good, one was average. They work on tip basis. So you pay them after clicking. You can tell them how you want the pictures taken, including the famous mirror click. There are some poses you can do, walking to or fro, back pose, jumping, etc. They help you with that too. Check the photos before leaving to check you get what you want.

The greenery was kinda beautiful but not sure if its worth the drive & the money as you will find these gates across Bali in many places, in different sizes, even some hotels has it, ours did. And we had different expectation in mind while heading. So it can be avoided.

Amazing views. You need to pay an entrance fee and wait for your turn to take photos. We waited around 30mins. We flied our drone and only then someone told us we had to pay 150k idr to fly. Another way for ripping people off. This was not mentioned at the entrance. The guy who took our photo rushed us and didn’t take the photo properly with the mirror effect so make sure you check your photos before leaving!
