We are Canadians, first-time travellers to Bali (2 adults and 2 children ages 10 and 5) and have experienced a handful of snorkel cruises in the Caribbean and Mexico.
We booked the cruise through Bali Success Tours (Australian-owned operator) before reading TripAdvisor reviews. A mistake on my part in hindsight, but the reviews here were tremendously helpful in our preparation and positive experience.
If you choose the Quicksilver, do so knowing these tips:
- To clarify, it is the collective of passengers and not the Quicksilver cruise/staff that affect your experience
- The staff is very hard-working and friendly who try their best to take care of passengers (do seek out to give them a tip if you can afford it; truly deserving)
- The cruise is well organized given the complexity of their passengers; the staff also takes extra care of those with children
- It's a 60-min ride to Nusa Penida so prepare for motion sickness
- Try to locate seats on the primary deck (level 1 of 3) as it has quick access to food, beverages, bathrooms and exit doors
- Do try every activity the cruise offers; our kids marvelled at the banana boat ride, 60m slide, snorkel over some coral, even the sub-sea marine
- Delicious food and bbq; with children, the staff guided us to areas with the least amount of crowds so we were able to enjoy our meal
- The buffet area is mayhem, but observe it for a moment and you can navigate pockets so you can collect food without too much trouble; it's okay to be passively pushy back to get through it (lol)
- The passengers may cause some stress but we smiled at their love for karaoke - yes karaoke on the cruise at end of day - as they did sing their hearts out :)
To watch out for:
- The cruise is uncomfortably crowded
- The passengers are dominantly Asians who don't speak English and many can be quite pushy, rude, disorderly, loud (there were some friendlies who were kind to our kids)
- If you choose to snorkel, know that many of the passengers cannot swim or are simply terrified of water and their behaviour can exude panic, so smartly keep a distance from them and all is well; there is a very strong current that pushes swimmers away from the platoon and it is recommended adults help kids and even each other swim through the current to return to the platform (applicable on the slide as well)
Overall, a well operated cruise ship with challenging crowds to manage that is certainly not the fault of the staff. It would be an outstanding cruise with fewer people. Otherwise, if you enjoy it so will those around you.

A little more pricey than competitors but went with it due to the Quicksilver name being reputable.
Predominately very rude and ignorant Chinese on cruise who pushed in, ate like pigs, and wouldn't move out of way when my children were trying to get on and off the Barge when snorkelling.

The cruise was really great and i can say it was comfortable and the food is really good.
When you arrive in the island the buffet is also really good and water sport is unlimited and me and my friends had tons of fun.
BUT
on the way back to tanjung benoa. me and my friends needed sleep because we were so tired after doing the water sport activities. but suddenly a group of thailand people or something came up and sing infront of the boat and sang non stop along the way back. i'm really sorry but (the voice is terrible) i swear it's TERRIBLE. it gives me chills and makes me so dizzy. i nearly puked at one point.

When I first wrote the review I was really quite disappointed but at the end of the day mellowed out as there are some good things.
First up:
The aerial photo looks great but in reality this looks exactly like a giant floating canteen on sea. It must fit like 300 people.
This programs caters almost exclusively for the Chinese mass market. I have nothing against them, they can be highly entertaining and business is business. But what I find distressing is the staff's attitude. Guest next to me let her son pee on the floor. Unfortunate. But when I tried to get the staff's attention to clean it up they clearly ignored me. They were too busy chatting among themselves. So we sat there at lunch and when the raft floats a certain way we raise our feet and pray the pee doesn't flow too far. Not to mention them walking all over it and spreading it around. How hygienic.
And then one of the Chinese guest brought a plastic bag and went snorkelling in the water. He used the plastic bag to try to scoop a fish swimming in the sea, minding its own business. He finally caught one and a whole group of them swarmed around him to try to take a picture with the poor fish trapped in a leaking plastic bag. Again tried to tell a staff to tell them to let the fish go, he laughed as if let them be. Sorry but I feel poorly for any tour company that does not care for the environment they earn from.
And be ready to be soaked in cigarette smoke. There's no smoking zone so it's a free for all smoke as you like pontoon.
That said there are some redeeming qualities of the trip namely the submarine under water view experience though in hindsight I'm a little dubious about its impact on marine life.
Activities included in the price was banana boat, water slide, snorkelling, the submarine ride and a boat ride to the island to watch cockfighting though it's a very tame version. Just be prepared to queue for everything with the hoards of tourists on board. Don't panick at lunch when the multitude rush to be fed. Just wait a moment and soon enough there will be some space for you to join the buffet line and get your food.
Some special mentions.
The manager on board was lovely despite the disappointment that was her team. The kindly older gentleman minding the slide was also lovely.

This is a classic example of how you should listen to the comments on the Tripadvisor. Against the rating and not so pleasant comments, I got on Quick Silver. Big mistake!
Snorkeling - I don't know what they are thinking, but the current is too strong, and we could not do the snorkeling. A few people tried, but some were saved by the boat down the stream. I know the island offers many spots for snorkeling, but the place they picked is dangerous. I don't know if any got to enjoy the fish and corals underneath the water.
Water slide & banana boat - these were average at best. The slide is like for little kids. I was in line for the banana boat, and they were letting some people cut in. Maybe they were tipped, but it was annoying.
Jet ski - I paid additional money and signed up for jet ski. I have lots of experience. Yet, one of the workers rode with me controlling the ski. What fun is that?
Lunch buffet - there were food on buffet, but shrimps, clams, and satay were handed to us like 2 piece at a time. So you have spaghetti and vegetables on buffet, but for others, you have to go back in line for several times. Not good quality food either
Employees on cruise - they seem friendly and professional.
Employees for the water activities - they are not professional, and many of them don't even speak English. They were gathered around in the corner, and not interested in helping the customers. They are the ones letting a few people cutting in.
Bali has a lot to offer with many activities. But Quicksilver is not one of them.

We actually enjoyed this outing but only because we read a blog of this trip that explained it perfectly. This is a trip for Asians, mainly Chinesse and Korean and it is a great trip for them. We got to the boat to find we were about the only white people and about 250 Asian tourist.
The trip out was rough and lots of very sick passages, we took travel calm beforehand and it was an ok trip. The staff were wonderful and lunch was good. The snorkeling was simple - good fishes but dead coral. The current was strong was in the morning but very dangerous in the afternoon. My husband spent time pulling out Asian tourist that were in trouble. We found the current scary!!!
We went to the village which was simple but nice. We chatted to others and they noted Aussie have started to organize their own snorkeling safaris which sounds like a good idea. We wouldn't our friends to go.

This tour is one of the more expensive tours available for snorkelling but after using the "quicksilver" brand for a similar tour in Cairns I decided to go with this one. It was all very well organised and the boat ride over and back very pleasant, even with a great majority of the other people being sick.we had approx 200 people on our boat mostly of Asian decent. When we arrived we decided to do the snorkelling first - bringing our own snorkelling equipment we headed straight down to the platform, the fish and coral were really good and we were all enjoying ourselves. Very soon the current turned and was really very strong, it was extremely difficult to swim against even in flippers!!! I soon found myself on the outer edge of the snorkelling area held up against ropes, which was fine,it was quite easy to then pull myself back to the boat and the safety of the platform....... Well except for my fellow travellers. Unfortunately 90% of the other people from Korea and Malaysia were unable to swim, they had life jackets on but became quite panicked by the current and were standing on the ropes making it almost impossible to safely negotiate my way back in. I also then had one Of them try and climb on my back!!! Eventually after losing my temper at them our tour people came over in a dingy and started plucking these poor terrified people out of the water. I was frightened and I could swim so I can only imagine what it must be of been like for them, although one must question two things here - what are people doing on a water sport tour that can't swim???? And why aren't operators enforcing some sort of beginner vs intermediate snorkelling area???? Anyhow after a very frustrating hour or so and numerous flying kicks and hands everywhere I got back to the boat and platform where I couldn't get onto the boat because the platform was taken up with them all coughing and gasping for breath or just plain freaking out!!!! Myself and my family were all really quite unhappy at this point and questioning the remaining time and price we paid to be on this boat. We then had lunch served which was buffet, we again had to negotiate a lot of people ignorant to anyone else around them to get to the buffet, where the food was sub par to say the least, the hot buffet was Luke warm at best and I didn't wish to eat something that was sure to give me bali belly!!!! The cold buffet was at least refrigerated but the food looked less than appealing so we all stuck to eating the fruit only. I will say things did look up after this with a very lovely couple of quicksilver guys who then helped us get over to the island and onto the glass bottom boat, this was lovely and a very pleasant couple of hours on the island and boat. When we returned we spent some time on the slide, which turned out to be quite a great deal of fun. We then got taken on the banana boat which was also good fun. All in all it wasn't a bad day and was really saved by the fantastic guys from the quicksilver team.

My first impression when riding the Quicksilver Cruise-ship was "It's more a ferry than a cruise". If you ever board the Hongkong-Macau ferry, the Quicksilver cruise was almost similar to that, only adding that it provides snacks and drinks, karaoke, and outside deck/chair. The Quicksilver cruise-ship is having approximately 400seats. The ship was very crowded, the food was only so-so, and the air conditioner didn't function well so it was very hot inside the craft at that moment. It boarded from Tanjung Benoa at abt 9.30AM and arrived back at Tanjung Benoa at around 3.30PM
The journey from Tanjung Benoa to Nusa Penida island may cause seasick for many people, many of the ships passenger were looking sick only after 15min on board. Luckily, Quicksilver has many crews, stand-by with plastic bag in case anyone vomit. It took 60min from Tanjung Benoa to its deck near Nusa Penida island.
After stopping on the deck, we continued with small motor boat (capacity 30persons) to Nusa Penida. The attraction that they provided in Nusa Penida island was not good at all. Having heard that Nusa Penida is a beautiful island, I was expecting much and I expect to be able to spend some time on its beach. But it turned out that Quicksilver has made a kind of replica of traditional village in small area in Nusa Penida beach. In this replica of traditional village, we supposed to see Balinese Cock Fighting, traditional balinesse costume, and playing with turtles, but in fact, the cock fighting was only less than 5 min (which i think the shorter time the better as I hate to see animals being tortured like that), the turtles were only 3 or 4 small turtles in a very small pond (pitiful!) and it has some small area showing balinese custome, but none of us trying it. This "replica" area was very very small and it has super small beach and they dont even let you have some time to play on the beach as the motor boat must go back and forth to carry the next passanger.
And then it comes to semi submarine ship where you can see underwater view. It was ok, but again, because too many people in the cruise, we were only given less than 3min to enjoy the view.
In the deck, we can enjoy banan boat (only 1 round, less than 5minutes), water sliding (not bad!), and snorkling (limited snorkle equipment and not sure about its hygiene), and diving (at extra cost).
The lunch buffet was ok, but again, because there were too many people, the lunch were very crowded and the food were running off before I feel satisfied.
I didnt not how much this cruise is cost beacuse my trip was arranged by the company where I worked, but personally I will not do this anymore as the attraction is just so-so, the seasick experience, and with so many hours consumed, I wld better spend it on Bali beautiful beaches.

The best thing about the cruise was the food. They have plenty food and it taste pretty good. I liked their grilled chicken. The cruise was packed with tourist from China, I say it's about 95 percent. But they are not rude or anything, although you will see them taking food over excessively. One thing that I don't like about the cruise was the banana boat ride. If you want them/the worker to topple the banana boat for the fun, you HAVE TO give them a tip. Otherwise they won't do it. However since the locker can only be opened once otherwise you have to put more money, it can be a hassle. I wish they would tell me in advance about the "force" tips, my banana boat was more like an easy breezy ride

The cruise, the programs, the food is awesome too bad during the lunch buffet break, the queue is a bit messed. some people impatient n cutting the line nor just grab the food and ignoring you the one whose been patiently wait for the chicken n prawn skewer on the grill :( and we wait for so long for the spoon n fork. the staff was friendly and helpful but maybe during the peak season they have to add some more staff. My lil boy enjoyed the water slide, banana boat, snorkeling, semi submarine and our little visit to the village to watched chicken fighting. Little tips the jet ski exclude in the package so you have to pay $18 or 200,000 for the ride.
