- Reshma1 contributionSteep steps, uphill climb, decent viewsMe & my husband (46 & 50) visited Everest House in Oct 2021 when renovations were just being completed & the place was being readied by the Govt for inauguration in Nov. If you notice, there are mixed reviews here. Some good, some not so. The reviews are subjective due to the reviewers own experiences & exposure to Uttarakhand's scenic spots & hikes. Please be aware that the actual hike begins only from Everest House. When we visited in Oct, cars/vehicles were not allowed to go till Everest House & people had to trek uphill an additional 3 kms from the main gate to reach the same, that too, without a place to sit or rest or even buy drinking water; so would suggest that one finds out if cars are now allowed till Everest House, before visiting. Secondly, after renovations, very steep stone steps have been unnecessarily created (why on earth does the govt do this?) on the hiking trail. Some bright spark in the govt probably wanted to lower the govt's revenues by excluding citybred tourists & families with kids, from visiting & hiking here! So if one is 50+, or just used to the city life, or unfit, or with small kids, I would personally not recommend this. Also, since we had just returned after doing a portion of the Tungnath trek in Chopta, seeing the views of Auli and trekking the forest trails of Jabarkhet & Devalsari... these views didn't excite us that much. All the above treks had places to sit & rest & had not many steep steps to navigate. As a city-bred couple b/w 45-50 yrs, we could easily climb those & get mesmerizing views to boot! So, no. The steep stone steps recently created by the Govt on the hiking trail, are a deterrent, (they could easily have made much lower steps) and we returned without completing the hike. Would not visit again. On the other hand, for the young, fit hikers, this would be a nice place to visit.Visited October 2021Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 November 2021

- Subrahmanyam RRanikhet, India18 contributionsBest hike in MussorieFar away from the madding crowd is the hike to the Everest peak and Everest house. The short hike of about 40 mins takes one from the meadow at the beginning of the walking trail, to the Peak that opens up to all the snowpeaks - swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Srikant, Gangotri I, II, III, Jaonli, Brigupanth, Satopant, Kedarnath, Chaukhamba. Best to avoid the Everest House so that you can spend time on the hike to the Peak, which offers great vista of himalayasVisited October 2021Written 16 October 2021

From the parking lot, you start walking up a steep but paved trail to reach the Everest House. From this point on, you walk up further (giant steps at times and also a gravel trail) for about 40mnts.to reach the summit. This is an exhausting walk up and is not for everyone. Be prepared. Take water and hiking shoes is a must(I saw people with their flip flops!). Enjoy the 360 degree views of the distant mountains and of course, fresh breeze. Again, this walk is only for a determined visitor and is demanding. We were told that there are electric vehicles that can take you to the house. But we did not see one. Good Luck and have fun!

Superb place. There is a climb of 1.5kms. Electric vehicle is available to go up. You can take your car too, at a fee of 500. Walking is advised. The top is a nice picnic spot. From there you can go all the way to the top of a hill from where you get amazing views.

Sir George really had the privileged life and luxury to stay at such beautiful location. There is a hike of around 1 to 1.5km from base. The road is perfect motorable, but it's closed for tourist vehicles. We have to walk.upto the house. There is everest base camp cafe too for eating and hangout. We can Camp too there. Lot of maggi and momos eating place..the last stretch to the top is little adventurous and rewards with some amazing views. We get to see the winter line!! The only one of two place in this world

For those who like short hikes and treks, this is a good trail. The ascent isn't too difficult and the views from the top are typically those you get from mountain tops.
We unfortunately went on a Saturday and had to deal with noisy crowds and trails that had plastic packets and water bottles littered.

People are not being honest about this site. First of all most people are driving to the location and then begin a very steep but paved hike uphill for at least 30 minutes or more. Along the way you see lots of rubbish left by people who bought snacks at the start and decided to just leave the chips bags along the way. Once you reach the top of the paved part, it’s not clear what to do next as there are no real signs. Just construction of a house(?) and some more food stalls. I guess you have to go up an unmarked steep path for another 30 minutes to where there are some flags. To the peak. It could be nice if people didn’t litter, there was more signage and if there were some places to maybe sit and rest once you arrive. It’s a waste of time.

The weather would be pleasant but no snow in or around Mussoorie. It start snowing in Dhanaulti (35 km) from Mussoorie in late December. However, it would be very cold in the morning and evening, around 5°-10°C. Days are generally pleasant and lite warm clothes are required.

Its great to visit Mussoorie in any season. However, you would experience rain during July. Try to stay on the mall road only. Everything is accessible from the mall. If you are staying anywhere else, you may get stuck during heavy rain.

There is a cab stand on the Mall Road _Liberary side where you can take a taxi with a pre-fixed rate and itenary. Also when you go to the George Everest House I do recommend you stop at Cloud's End, possibly for a lunch since they have a cover charge for entry which gets set off against meal. The trek from the Clouds End to Echo Point and Sunset points are worth the trip, while the lunch is fairly average fare.

Hi, I was planning to go on this trek. Would want to know the following:
1. Best way to reach the trek location (Lal Tibba) from Rishikesh. (Bus, cab, etc.)
2. What is the best time to finish this trek and reach George Everest.
3. Is April a good time for the trek?
TIA

From Rishikesh, there are buses that go till Mussorie - picture palace stand.
From there take a local cab to Lal Tibba. There are few places to stay around so that you start your trek early morning next day.
April beginning is good time, weather lot better than Dehi :-)
Start early morning and take route of camels back road and not via mussoorie mall road.
Once you reach there try climbing a small peak at George Everest.... Its steep but worth it.
Ensue to start back around 4 pm so that you reach mall road by evening and before it gets dark.
FYI- night time at that place is best but need to be in group.... No place to stay... You can camp.
