A ropeway, with passengers packed without concern for social distancing or sanitization in Covid times, goes up from the Mall Road to Gun Hill giving closeup views of the haphazard development of mediocre hotels along the slope. The top of the Gun Hill is a complete man made disaster with the entire periphery taken up by dirty restaurant shacks and the central small area by rides for kids. AVOID!

From the Mall road you need to walk up about 1.5 to 2 kilometers to take ropeway to gun hill point. The walk is comfortable with food stalls to keep you entertained.
The ropeway here is really pathetic. They fill quite a number of people in one cable car. People even go standing in it. Approxly 15 to 18 people are made to travel in one cable car of the capacity of 10 people... this is done simply to increase the revenue. The cable car passes just couple of feets above the hotels on mall road... making your experience less then pleasant. I feel safety measures are not followed at this place. However the view of Missourie from the top is breathtaking.

Gunhill Point is reached by a single trolley cable car, which makes the wait a bit longer in queues. The views from the top are breath-taking. There are plenty stall games for children, and a few cafes serving nice and hot tea, along with snacks.

Great views no doubt but nothing extraordinary which anyone would not find elsewhere in Mussoorie. The place is full of shops who are just trying to woo you to buy something. Such over pressurising would render the visitors to leave the place as soon as possible then to buy the stuff from there.

In olden times a huge gun kept atop this hill would fire ar 12 noon for all to adjust time. It no longer has a gun but binoculars to view the captivating panorama from closer look.
The Himalayan snow clad peaks to one side while the sprawling Mussoorie town and the vast Doon Valley all can be enjoyed from here.
You can sit and enjoy hot coffee/tea with snacks or dress up in traditional attire and get yourself clicked.
The snow clad Himalayan panorama is visible in winter months and sometimes during Monsoon but hardly visible in Summer months. Best time to view the Himalayan panorama is from Mid November to Mid March.

The long queue of tourists wanting to go up the rope way is no indication of the place. Other than a quick ride on the ropeway there is no other plus with this attraction. The top is terrible with unhygienic food stalls and vendors selling cheap Chinese stuff. The views are not all that great. There are better places in Mussoorie from where you can great views. Avoid.

Very little of interest when you get to the top of Gun point , except for lots of small shops selling momo/magi etc and children’s cheap gaming shops / tin huts. Very disappointing indeed, having paid 220Rs per person for the ropeway trolly to the top( same price for even the 4yr and 8 yr old kids ). The views are not so great either !! The gun is a toy gun made from motor bike tyre and 4 inch toilet drain pipe !! VERY DISAPPOINTING !!

The hill area above is developed into picnic complex like a typical tourist destination. The Telescope point there is a time pass, the telescope is old and pictures are not clear. Not a quite or serence place

We took the walk on Mall Road, the short cable car ride to Gunpoint- the entire views are blocked by shops. restaurants and shops have taken up viewing area and you will have to go to one for them to see anything.
Sadly one does get to have a peaceful time - looking out for views.

What are the timings for roapway
Written 16 May 2019
how can we book gunhill ropeway tickets online in advance to avoid the queues and rush...???
Written 23 January 2018
No online booking available. Not much of rush. It's a 10 min ropeway. Not much of an adventure

How high above sea level is Gun Hill and Mussoorie?
Written 16 March 2017
To the best of my knowledge, it's about 7000 ft ASL. Gun Hill about 300 ft higher than the Mall road.
I would suggest to go to Lal Timba, rather than Gun Hill.
