- Karthik B10 contributionsKempty Falls - small yet good place to spend timeKempty Falls has a ropeway / cable car as well as steps to go to the place. Ropeway was nice 3-4 minute affair and water in October was quite good. IT was a bit chilly and not many ventured in water. The overall experience was quite decent.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 October 2023
- Dilip Das12 contributionsKempty Commercial water FallThe area of Kempty falls is polluted by the stalls and shops. People have murder the natural falls. Now it looks like water is falling inside a pond or pool. Shops are constricted very close to the water body. Lots of thrash and plastic bottles are floating. Being a waterfall lover was felling very sad to see the commercial Kempty falls. I think Local authorities should impose some guide lines and people should come forward to save the Kempty waterfall.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 13 January 2024
- Coastal105949902073 contributionsBeautiful and coolBeautiful and cool shops recommend getting there before 3pm so you have enough time for the gondola which closes at 5pm. Cool shops bit pricey but looks cool. Fun games and food. If you take kids keep them close as there are alot of monkeys and they snatch stuff but they got really close to my daughter bit scary.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 February 2024
- susanta nathZirakpur, India129 contributionsSummer Holiday tripArea is very busy indeed, lots of commercial shops, have to park vehicle on side of road (paid parking). Then you can go walking to cable car or trek to waterfall as per choice. Paid to and fro cable car charges taken first then you ride down to waterfall area. The waterfall area has been commercialized into a swimming area with shops around. Its really busy there and water also dirty.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 June 2024
- minoli d20 contributionsA Beautiful place to visitKempty falls is a beautiful place to visit , but commercialized , if you wanted buy handmade stuff , yep are lucky ... Souvenirs, little pouches and etc. I preffered steps to reach kempty falls but cable car is availabel. You can rent bathing suites for reasonable prices buy suggest to carry your own suites!Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 September 2024

This place is situated around 17 km from Mussourie, mall road. One can either drive to the place, hire a car or bus as per individual needs.
In order to get to the waterfall you need to walk few hundred metres from the parking lot to the place where you can take the cable car. You then descend by few hundred feet using the cable car into the valley. From there you need to again take the stairs which take you right at the foot of the waterfall. The water falls from an altitude of approximately 250 feet from the top of the mountain. Since we visited the place in December, the water was close to the freezing temperature. In summer one can expect comfortable temperatures in which case getting into the water can be more enjoyable.
One can expect to spend approximately anywhere between 1 to 2 hours at the warefall. There are few restaurants in the area in case you need to grab some snacks or beverages.
The waterfall has a history belonging to the British Era. All said and done this is an attraction which nature lovers should never miss.

We went on a trekking trip to Kempty falls with Manish .. we were supposed to go to Bird Sanctuary which was our initial plan but on 27th it raining all night and early morning so we cancelled but by early afternoon It stopped raining and we were keen to do something and it was a blessing in disguise we ended up going to Kempty falls.
We were with our Son who is 6 years old and it was his 3rd trekking experience but never down a steep mountain . The view was breathtaking .. foggy.. green .. light drizzle.
The way Manish took down the trail was smooth and explained us about different plants and its benefits even the mystery and history behind the name and place Kempty falls.
We crossed a flowing river which was freezing cold but a lifetime experience we actually set up our selves on a rock there for an hour or so just gazing around and enjoying the flow and noise of the river
Setup a tent by the river.. cooked Maggie and tea the primitive method of collecting branches and burning them it was an experience in it self.
The peace , the connect with nature and mother earth made us realize that this is life moments cherished together loving our natural environment.
A must must go trip with Manish if your staying at Jw Marriott walnut Grove.

It's not at all worth. Better you stay at hotel and enjoy the nature or move out for a walk to enjoy.
The waterfall itself is huge with a lot of gushing water flow. But what makes it pathetic is infrastructure built around it making the fall crushed between structures, shops and filth.
I visited the place in January 2022 which is almost off season, hardly 10 tourist were there including me but I found this place not worth a visit.
You will be highly disappointed to see the condition around the waterfall. It's pathetic.
Waterfall itself is very beautifull but surrounding makes it like a gutter pipeline leaking.
I did not like the place at all. The road leading to Kempty is worth driving. But that's all....

It was with the expectation of meeting
a nice water fall we went there. On a holiday with heavy traffic with rash drivers and almost no parking space for cars we reached there. We realised that climbing down and up to the falls is was a sheer waste of time.No good hotels nearby.A small toilet area charging 10Rs for urinal usage. The stream of the water falling down for a short height was really unattractive.

Over the years tourists have made this pristine place the worst in Mussoorie. extremely un hygienic you have hundreds of people bathing in the small area and busy clicking selfies. The place is crwded with shops selling cheap stuff and cheap food. It;s quite a nightmarish experience. Avoid

Very crowded. It’s about 20 km from Mussoorie. You can go by car or rented scooter. One will have to go down about 1km to reach the fall where you can enjoy the Himalayan water in pond. It’s quite a small one surrounded by tens of shops. Reaching to fall is like crossing through the the crowded market where you can do some window shopping. There is a ropeway which charge about 150/- for Single/Return trip. One can rent out swim costumes for 50/- Overall it was a average experience.

Kempty falls is not located in Mussoorie. It is located 13 kms away from Mussoorie at the Tehri Gerhwal district. Upon reaching parking charges are required to park any kind of vehicle (rates may vary depending on vehicles/season), however no entry fees are needed. After parking one may descend a flight of stairs to reach the bottom of the fall. The steps from the top to bottom and left and right are surrounded by small shops. Even the waterfall is surrounded by the shops where you may choose to take a dip or swim. Tourists are facilitated with lockers for their clothes and belongings. Kempty falls is always crowded. If you like peace and nature this place is definitely not for you. The sight is more of people taking bath, loud noises and packed shops rather than the waterfall and it's therapeutic sound. I definitely do not recommend this place to nature lovers. The view of the falls is best enjoyed from afar away.

Do I have to give it 1 star? It is awful. Do not waste time going here. It is long road and absolutely not worth it. I am appalled by the scenes at this waterfall. The unauthorised construction, the hawkers and the tourists bathing in unhygienic waters. I do not understand why there is no action taken by authorities to stop all this at a beautiful creation of Mother Nature. Why can’t people just come to the falls, click few photos and leave??? Why there needs to be Maggi points surrounding the falls.
Please do not go here. Do not waste your time. Someone has written a true review here that it is a perfect murder of Mother nature.

We had a wonderful experience in Mussoorie.
The beautiful hills and mountains, and every sight was great in its own way. We had a Driver named Kamal Singh, a nice guy and a good tour guide. He had genuine rates so I thought people in search of guides may take his assistance.

Not sure why it is has so much hype. A regular picnic spot where you find a pond, a waterfall, few places to eat Maggie and other snack item.
Too much crowd hence someone has to be very early to place to beat traffic.
Would need to walk a bit to reach the waterfall so pls be prepare.
Get your swim costume with otherwise otherwise it was available on rent on decent price. Only hygiene could be a problem.

I will be reaching mussoorie at 2.00pm by bus. If i directly visit kempty falls. Can we keep large bags and expensive stuff there? Is is safe and can accomodate all my bags?
Written 13 August 2023
One has to climb down, through stairs or cablel car, from oad level to see the falls. Though there are shops / restaurant at the entry / road level, but don't recall seen any provision for luggage keeping. May be you have to keep the luggae at some of these shops, but not sure about safety and security of your belongings.

Are the tourist places like kempty falls, Gun hills, etc closed on Fridays ? One travel website says most of the places are closed on Fridays. Is it true ? No mention about this point anywhere else ?

From Dehradun..booking a 4 seater..by covering kempty falls..going to mall road..MUSSOORIE...what will be one way car fare?
Written 17 September 2018
I believed it should be between 1200 to 1500 either for hatchback or sedan as distance from Dehradun is not more so offcourse they have min Kms limits whether to use or not (150 to 200)..more to that they charge extra per km wise. If u r a good negotiator I guess one way charges as per your itinerary 1100 is enough. 😀
