I had a great sitar lesson with Baba Dee; we spent an hour going over the basic fundamentals and technique of sitar playing, and being a guitar player I believe I picked it up relatively quickly. However, I do think that absolute beginners could still make good progress in the time given.
I decided to purchase a sitar at a very reasonable price, which included a hard case. The owner of the music school even personally delivered the sitar to a hotel in Delhi (at an additional cost) so that I could pick it up before my flight back to the UK. This saved me having to lug the sitar around India on the rest of my trip!
Overall I could not fault the service received and would definitely recommend Taal Music School.

Me n son - both have no knowledge in music. Since we are having vacation here for a month, we decided to take up music lesson. Myself sitar while son doing flute and tabla. I have opted this music school because of the various n positive comment on the owner of the school - Munna Ji.
Unbelievable after 5 days of class - I could see myself mastering the string instrument sitar, of course beginner’s level. I am impress and the credit must go to my guru. I would say they have their own way of teaching. Therefore a beginner like me is able to do it.
Son is picking up tabla well, and for the flute - he is still trying. Overall we r very much satisfied with the skill of our guru and their commitment to make us master a certain level of music within the one month period.
I highly recommend you guys to engage Munna Ji for music lessons.

Taal Music School is in the middle of a very busy, narrow and interesting alley in Pandey Ghat.
I learnt Tabla with Munna and it was very enjoyable. Munna is a very patient teacher and kind man with very much skill on tabla. Learning tabla here was one of the highlights of my trips in India. I very much enjoyed drinking chai with Munna and sharing stories with him. I would recommend doing some lessons here even if you have never picked up an instrument in your life.
Cannot wait to go back and brush up on my tabla skills!

I learned to play Tabla with Munna, and it was excellent, an Indian experience worth trying.
In addition I bought there an excellent Tabla at a reasonable price and I'm really pleased with it.

I have been learning to play bansuri flute during 3 mounth with Kishore ji. He is very good teacher. At first time I did not know anything but I have learnt a lot and practicing everyday now. Good vibrations, good mood, good instruments. Thank you to Munna ji as well for very interesting, funny and intense lessons. It was like - wow, I have been playing at my drum like 1.5 hours and did not notice:)) Thank you for everything! See you next season

I came as a beginner to learn tabla from Munna. I had daily classes with him for one month. His love of music makes it a real fun and inspiring experience to play this instrument. He's also patient and very easy to learn from and be with. I got a good grasp of how to play in this time and will continue to develop each time I return here. I recommend Taal Music School to everybody intetested in learning music in Varanasi.

It was beyond my imagination that after just a month of tabla lesson with Munnar, I am playing a Chakrader Tukra with confidence and perhaps even a touch of flare ;)
Now I’ve bought my own tabla and it feels like I’ve found a life long companion.
I’d recommend anyone to take some music lessons while you are in Varanasi, whether it’s flute, sitar or tabla. Just do it. It may change your life.

I spent here almost a month to learn sitar, Muna is always smiling, he's cool, friendly, honest. I bought him a nice sitar. It was such an experience to learn with Baba.
Do you remember those old school kung-fu movies ? There's always an old wise man, a master. I had this feeling, I found my guru ! Thanks a lot !

Hi!
I’m from Europe and I’d love to learn to play the sitar during a visit to Varanasi. I’m an absolute beginner though. How much time would you advise me to spend at a course for a good basic experience, from which to develop skills further back home? Would two or three weeks be realistic? That’s the maximum for me to get off from work.
Thank you for your reply!
Best, Femke

I am planning a trip for next year in the summer. Amritsar to Leh to Varanasi. 2 days in Varanasi, probably at Rashmi Guest House. So lot of time until then.
